    A man has been remanded in custody after being charged with attempting to meet a boy under 16 following grooming.

    Paul Bryant, aged 49, of Windsor Close in Birmingham, appeared before magistrates in Cannock earlier to also face a charge of assault.

    He was arrested in Hockley, near Tamworth, on Friday night following reports of a disturbance involving several members of the public.

    Halesowen's Jordanne Whiley says her fourth Wimbledon wheelchair doubles title is her best win yet.

    Whiley and partner Yui Kamiji went a set down as the Dutch second seeds started confidently on court three.

    But 25-year-old Whiley and Kamiji, 23, recovered to take the second and did not lose a game in a decisive third to extend their winning run at Wimbledon.

    The West Midlands has among the highest reports of puppy farms in England.

    New figures released by the RSPCA show that 2016 was its busiest year for tackling the underground puppy trade.

    The charity says it's receiving more calls than ever from people reporting questionable breeders and dealers.

  11. Everyday bin strikes to 'last longer and continue into September'published at 13:19 British Summer Time 17 July 2017

    The bin strikes under way in Birmingham are to continue every day until 1 September, the union Unite says.

    Refuse collectors have been on strike for two-hour periods every day since 14 July, with a pledge to continue into early August.

    Now, in addition to the September extension, Unite said that from 28 July, the two-hour strike periods would be extended to three hours.

    Unite regional officer Lynne Shakesepare said the change followed a meeting with Birmingham City Council that yielded nothing to address members' concerns over job losses amid council plans to overhaul the service.

    More than 120 refuse workers have, she said, been contacted by letter to give them notice their posts are surplus to requirement.

    The local authority has been contacted for comment.

    Three level crossings between Walsall and Rugeley will close for the rest of the year as engineering work takes place.

    Bloxwich level crossing will close on 12 August and footpaths along the line at Sandywood and Stoneyfields will also close.

    Diversions will be signposted.

    Two weather warnings for the West Midlands have been issued by the Met Office today, external.

    Firstly they say thundery showers are expected across the south of the region, including Herefordshire, Worcestershire and parts of Warwickshire, from tomorrow evening.

    Then from just after midnight on Wednesday they are expected to turn into scattered thunderstorms affecting the whole region.

    In both cases the Met Office says there is a chance of localised flooding where they hit.
