  1. 'Street race' killers jailedpublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 21 July 2017

Two men who held "an impromptu street race" in which a man was killed have been jailed, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) says.

In December 2014, Mohammed Kamran, 27, from Kitts Green, Birmingham, was driving along Stratford Road in the city. Kaesar Ali, 27, from Sparkhill, Birmingham, was also driving on the same road in a stolen car.

The two cars accelerated away from a set of traffic lights at the junction of Stratford Road and Shaftmoor Road, with Ali seen on CCTV to be driving on the wrong side of the street.

The vehicles touched, the CPS said, causing the drivers to lose control. A pedestrian was hit and the passenger in Ali's car, Asim Shaikh, was killed. He was 29.

Ali pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and was sentenced to 10 years and four months in prison.

Kamran was found guilty of the same offence and was handed a four-year jail term.
