    West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans [pictured below] says it was a very emotional night at Windsor Park, as he and Baggies team-mate Chris Brunt scored for Northern Ireland in their World Cup qualifying win over the Czech Republic.

    They secured second place in Group C and took a huge step towards a play-off place thanks to the 2-0 victory.

    Northern Ireland still have to face Germany and Norway. Eight of the nine European group runners-up will make the play-offs.

    A fatal fire at a flat in Tipton involved a portable heater and started accidentally, the fire service says.

    The body of a man in his 50s was found in Jays Avenue (pictured) on Sunday morning.

    Crews from Tipton and West Bromwich attended and prevented the fire spreading to other homes, West Midlands Fire Service, external has said.

    Former Liberal Democrat MP, John Hemming, has spoken out about a "campaign of vilification" against him surrounding allegations of past child sexual abuse.

    The Crown Prosecution Service announced he would not be facing prosecution in the case of Esther Baker, who has waived her right to anonymity.

    She claimed he and two others were part of a paedophile ring which sexually abused her in the 1980s and 1990s.

    In a personal blog, Mr Hemming says he is "still in discussion with the police about some of the criminal incidents involving my family and myself during this process".

    The politician was interviewed under caution by Staffordshire Police in 2015. At the time the force confirmed he was not arrested.

    The CPS said the case failed to meet the required level of evidence.

    An elderly man has escaped serious injury despite his car going down a 40ft embankment backwards.

    The vehicle went down the "steep slope" and turned over on to the passenger side in Stourbridge, West Midlands Ambulance Service, external said.

    It happened at just before 19:00 BST on Ounty John Lane.

    An ambulance service spokesman said the man had been able to "climb out of the vehicle through the sun roof but was unable to get back up the slope".

    The spokesman added: "He was complaining of shoulder and back pain, but the injuries were remarkably minor considering where his car had ended up."

    The city's bid team has published 22 reasons why it should be chosen from the economic benefits to the sporting legacy.

    Police are appealing for help from the public to trace a man wanted for a range of offences.

    Riaz Sanchez Jones, formerly of Falcon Way in Derby, is wanted by Nottinghamshire Police following a breach of a restraining order in Nottingham.

    The 27-year-old is also wanted over the breach of a court order in Birmingham, and in connection with an assault in Stoke-on-Trent.

    Edgbaston is set to host seven days of major match cricket next year - England’s international T20 against Australia, the first Test against India and T20 Blast Finals Day.

    England will face Australia on Wednesday 27 June, the first Test against India will start on Wednesday 1 August and T20 Blast Finals Day will be on Saturday 15 September 2018.

    Warwickshire, external chief executive Neil Snowball said: "Hosting the first match of the high summer Test series was previously a regular event at Edgbaston, and we are delighted to see this return for 2018 and hope that it can continue for the 2019 Ashes series and beyond.

    “We’ve not hosted an International T20 since 2014, so to host the only fixture between England and Australia is a good result for Edgbaston and it’s certainly an occasion where we will have to consider increasing our capacity again with a temporary stand."

    Tickets for the 2018 programme of major matches at Edgbaston will go on sale to club members from 11 September with the remaining allocation released on general sale from 10:00 BST on 10 October.

    England will host Australia in six limited-overs matches in 2018, in between Test series against Pakistan and India.

    Car-free streets will be put in place around three schools in Solihull from today as part of a pilot project to cut congestion.

    Parents parking near Oak Cottage Primary School, Marston Green Infant Academy and Haslucks Green Junior School will face fines if they breach it.

    A 20mph speed limit for all traffic is also being introduced as part of the plan to make the roads safer for children and reduce pollution.
