    Today there's a cabinet meeting, external with the nine of the most senior Birmingham councillors.

    They will vote on that public report into the waste management changes that caused such an hullabaloo a few weeks ago - saying the council has to sack these binmen or it risks financial ruin.

    This is the report that backed John Clancy into a corner in the first place - he had this vote deferred because of what it means for the strike.

    It looks likely to pass with no problems, though there are likely to be more questions raised today though.

    This of course doesn't solve the bin problem straight away, with many people getting their bins emptied every four weeks for wheelie bins and every two weeks if you have black bags - as refuse workers continue their industrial action.

    The strike is on until 21 September and we find out the results of a new Unite ballot very soon, which could mean the strike is extended.

    Tomorrow there is a high court case which Unite have brought - saying their is proof of a deal.

    An orchestra in the West Midlands has been given one of the largest gifts in its history by a man from Lichfield., external

    The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra's not revealed his name but says he was "very special to us" and started supporting them in memory of his wife.

    They say he's left them a legacy of £800,000 which is a "significant contribution" to the £15-£20m they need to raise over the next eight years.

    A building described "as one of the most important industrial sites in the West Midlands" has been listed as one of the most endangered by the Victorian Society., external

    Chance's Glassworks, in Smethwick, produced the glass faces of Big Ben and the original glass and iron structure of Crystal Palace but has stood empty for at least 20 years.

    The grade II listed building, which can be seen from the M5 viaduct, is under threat after being "left to deteriorate to a shocking degree".

    Police are investigating after a video of an officer heard to make racial comments to a member of the public was posted on social media.

    The constable was heard to make comments during a search of premises in Coventry on 24 August, West Midlands Police, external said.

    The force said it had received an official complaint, referred the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission and officers from its own professional standards department were investigating.

    The officer has been removed from front-line duties "pending further assessment".

    Assistant Chief Constable Alex Murray said: “The officer has already expressed remorse and is very apologetic over his comments."

    Five men have been charged following a disturbance at HMP Birmingham last December.

    Jayon Foster, 34, Hayden Mills, 23, Mohammed Khan, 39, Brodie Wadrup, 28, and Sean Kinsella, 29, are accused of taking part in a prison mutiny at the Winson Green jail.

    Mr Foster, from Birmingham, is due to appear at the city's magistrates' court later.

    The other men who are currently in prison are due to appear via video link.
