    Jack Reacher author Lee Child has returned to his Birmingham roots - and revealed a childhood fight found its way into one of his Jack Reacher novels.

    The 62-year-old was born in Coventry, but grew up in Handsworth Wood as Jim Grant.

    Now the Aston Villa supporter can look back on a stellar literary career that has seen 100 million Jack Reacher books sold around the world.

    On BBC Inside Out West Midlands on Monday, at 19:30 BST on BBC One, he tells presenter Mary Rhodes that memories of a fight he had with a group of bullies was written into one his books - and also featured in a Jack Reacher film starring Tom Cruise.

    Best-selling thriller writer Lee Child has described the moment he stepped in to save a New York taxi driver from a drunk passenger.

    The Coventry-born author, real name Jim Grant, said the offender ended up "horizontal on the sidewalk".

    His revelation came during a visit to Birmingham, where he grew up.

    The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, running from 20:00 tomorrow until 10:00 on Wednesday.

    It says the winds could get up to 75mph in exposed places and that it's likely to lead to longer travel times and even power cuts.

    A Grade II listed hospital which has sat empty since its closure is set to be turned into flats.

    The Royal Wolverhampton Hospital has been derelict for more than a decade after the supermarket chain Tesco bought the site but ditched its plans to develop the site two years ago.

    The government has announced plans to redevelop the building, creating 193 new homes and apartments.

    The Homes and Communities Agency says it will launch a public consultation next week seeking public opinion ahead of plans being submitted.

    More than 550 suppliers are here to sell their wares to retailers. The gardening industry is worth about £5bn and it's not just about plants - but everything from garden furniture to the cafes and food on offer for an overall experience.

    The over 50s are big spenders - they spend on average £250 a year, compared with young people. The younger market spend about £45 a year, and that's because about 25% of the under 40s don't have gardens.

    I'm told the market is up about 4% compared with the previous year though a price hikes could be looming.

    Sheila Hill, a garden retailer, says she may have to increase prices in the wake of Brexit as they source materials from Europe.

    A man is due before magistrates in Birmingham this morning charged with attempted murder after a stabbing inside a church.

    A 33-year-old man was taken to hospital and two others were injured at New Jerusalem Apostolic Church in Aston yesterday morning.

    John Delahaye, 47, from Ettington Road has also been charged with two counts of wounding and possession of a bladed weapon.
