    Dudley Council says it is set to go ahead with building a new light-rail innovation centre after winning an £18m funding bid.

    The centre will be built on the site of the town's former railway station and the authority hopes to make it a world leader in developing reduced weight and cost trains.

    Critics say building there will prevent mainline trains ever returning to Dudley.

    Ninety-three spot kicks have been awarded in the top-flight since West Brom were last awarded one and Pulis says he's taken up the matter with Mike Riley.

    A plaque on a postbox, dedicated to a World War One serviceman, has been unveiled in Birmingham.

    Royal Mail said it wanted to recognise the heroism of Sgt Alfred Knight during the battle for Wurst Farm in Ypres, Belgium, by unveiling a plaque on a postbox in his home city.

    The soldier was working as a clerk in a post office in Nottingham when he enlisted in the Post Office Rifles regiment.

    His granddaughter Anne Walsh unveiled the plaque and said she was "proud" of her grandfather.

    Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack has agreed a loan move to Australian side Melbourne City subject to a medical.

    The 31-year-old joined Villa from Fulham for around £12m in the summer of 2016 but only scored three times in 24 appearances.

    He spent the second half of the season on loan at Nottingham Forest following a falling out with Villa boss, Steve Bruce.

    The Food Standards Agency is investigating reports of safety breaches at a West Midlands-based factory owned by the UK's largest chicken suppliers.

    The Guardian and ITV News said workers at a 2 Sister Food Group site in West Bromwich had changed slaughter dates to extend the shelf life of meat.

    Marks & Spencer and Aldi have stopped taking chickens from the site while investigations continue.

    2 Sisters says it views the allegations "extremely seriously".

    A former Commonwealth Games gold medallist from Birmingham says the government's decision to back the city's bid to host the event in 2022 is "brilliant" news.

    Adam Ruckwood, who competed in the Games in 1994, has been reacting to the culture secretary Karen Bradley's announcement that Birmingham is to be the UK's official candidate city for the 2022 event.

    The BBC has also learned the city's main rival, Kuala Lumpur, will no longer bid.

    Warwickshire spinner, Jeetan Patel, has a chance of winning the Professional Cricketers’ Association’s Player of the Month Award for September.

    He earned most points in the PCA’s Most Valuable Player Rankings during the month and will now go into a fans’ poll to decide the winner.

    Patel earned 30 points for his century against Yorkshire, the third of his career and added 11 more points for taking two wickets in Yorkshire's first innings and 34 more for his first five-wicket haul of the season.
