  2. Teenager left 'fighting for life' following serious assualtpublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 29 September 2017

    A 17-year-old boy has been left with serious head injuries following an assault in Aston last month, police say, external.

    West Midlands police has released pictures of nine men it wants to speak to in connection with the incident.

    The teenager was taken to hospital and placed into an induced coma after he was attacked in Birchfield Road at 23:30 on 27 August.

    He remains in hospital and it's not yet known if he will fully recover from his injuries, a spokesman said.

  3. Six convicted over 'prison mutiny'published at 16:14 British Summer Time 29 September 2017

    Six inmates have been convicted for their part in a prison mutiny which sparked a 15-hour riot at HMP Birmingham last December.

    Luke Mansell, 24, and John Burton, 39, were found guilty of prison mutiny for their roles in the trouble, which spread to four wings and saw 500 prisoners let out of their cells.

    Four other men, Ross Wilkinson, Robert Smith, Nathan Weston and Grant Samed, all admitted a charge of prison mutiny before trial.

    Jurors failed to reach verdicts on a charge of mutiny for two others, Carl Brookes, 33, and 30-year-old Ross Queen.

    Sentencing will take place next week.

    Fears are growing for a heavily pregnant woman , externalwho has gone missing in Birmingham, police say.

    Carla Morgan, 35, was last seen just before 17:00 on Tuesday leaving her home in Acocks Green.

    She is thought to have left with several bags of clothing and officers believe she may be sleeping rough with her partner.

    Network Rail says it is working with local councils across the country to either close level crossings or find alternative ways to get people safely across the railway.

    Walsall Council says it held discussions with the organisation three years ago about removing the public right of way over a crossing where a teenager was hit by a train on Tuesday afternoon.

    Despite the talks, the council says it never received a formal application for its closure from the rail organisation.

    The former Wolves striker, Kevin Doyle, has retired from football because he says he is suffering headaches caused by heading the ball.

    The 34-year-old, who last played for American side Colorado Rapids, says he’s had medical advice to hang up his boots.

    A youth and a 20-year-old man have denied murdering a budding male model and entrepreneur in Aldridge.

    26-year-old James Brindley was stabbed once in the heart as he walked home late on 23 June.

    Aaron Kahrod from Walsall Road and a 17-year-old boy were arrested on 12 July and charged with murder two days later.

    At Birmingham Crown Court this morning, both pleaded not guilty to murder and were remanded in custody.

    Two inmates have been convicted over their part in a riot at HMP Birmingham.

    Luke Mansell, 24, and John Burton, 39, have been found guilty by Birmingham Crown Court of taking part in the disorder, which broke out on December 16 last year.

    The interim leader of Birmingham City Council says he's pleased the government has endorsed the city's bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

    Ian Ward says he believes the bid has been backed because it offers "value for money".

    Birmingham has already fought off competition from Liverpool and the BBC understands that Malaysia, its only other rival, is no longer bidding to host the event.

    The council believes the city's economy will receive a signficant boost if it were to host the games.

    A postbox in Birmingham has been dedicated to a serviceman who was awarded a Victoria Cross for bravery during World War One.

    Royal Mail said it wanted to recognise the heroism of Sgt Alfred Knight during the the battle for Wurst Farm in Ypres, Belgium, by unveiling a plaque on a postbox in his home city.

    The soldier was working as a clerk in a post office in Nottingham when he enlisted in the Post Office Rifles regiment.

    A man was assaulted in Birmingham city centre following a disorder involving up to 15 men, police say.

    The incident occurred in Hurst Street in the early hours of this morning.

    A 20-year-old was taken to hospital with head and leg injuries which are not serious, police say.

    A section of Hurst Street has been cordoned off while investigations are carried out.
