    A Willenhall dad who called his baby son Nigel is hoping the name can make a comeback.

    It's thought the name is on the brink of extinction in England and Wales with fewer than three Nigels born in 2016.

    Kieran Ball named his 13-month-old son after his father and says he doesn't think it's that unusual.

  2. Commonwealth Games 2022: Birmingham expected to be confirmed as hostpublished at 10:05 British Summer Time 29 September 2017

    Birmingham is expected to be confirmed today as England's bidder to host the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

    It was announced earlier this month that Birmingham had beaten Liverpool to become the candidate city.

    That decision still has to be approved by the Government.

    It's hoped the championships will be worth millions to the region.

    The ex-Bristol City coach has agreed a two-and-a-half year contract.

    Lee Carsley will remain as the Blue's assistant manager and will take charge of the side during the side's trip to Hull tomorrow.

    Ian Ward is set to become the next leader of Birmingham City Council.

    Councillor Ward, formerly deputy leader, was elected as the new leader of the Labour Party in Birmingham at a meeting last night.

    He will formally become council leader when the full council meets to approve him in November.

    The Bears drew against Hampshire yesterday at Edgbaston - keeping Hants up on the last day of the County Championship season.

    But the side has managed to win only one championship game all year.

    Troughton said he "cannot question the effort from the lads" but admitted that "at the end of the day we're in a results business, and we just haven't been good enough".

    Tributes have been paid to a 32-year-old woman who police believe was stabbed to death by her husband.

    Neo-natal nurse, Amy Barnes, was found dead at her home in Rednal on Tuesday.

    Police said she was killed by her 30-year-old husband, James, who then took his own life in a fire at his parents' house.

  20. Future of railway crossing where a girl died is to be reconsidered by council.published at 17:10 British Summer Time 28 September 2017

    The question of whether a railway crossing where a 14-year-old girl was killed should be closed is to be looked at again by a council.

    Walsall Council has confirmed it had discussions with Network Rail in 2014 about the future of the Wallows Lane crossing, where the girl was fatally injured after being hit by a train yesterday.

    The council denies it rejected a request for the public right of way to be removed, but says "no further formal application for its closure was received from Network Rail [and] had it been, the council would have consulted upon it".
