    Four Wasps players have been named in Eddie Jones's squad for the opening match of the autumn internationals.

    Elliot Daly, Joe Launchbury, Matt Mullan and Nathan Hughes (pictured left to right) are all picked in the 36-man side to face Argentina on 11 November.

    Back-rower Hughes is included, despite being banned until the 6 November for a dangerous tackle during Wasps' win over Harlequins at the Ricoh Arena on Sunday.

  2. Fewer buildings 'at risk' in 2017published at 11:12 British Summer Time 26 October 2017

    In the last year 37 buildings have been taken of Historic England's "at risk" register in the West Midlands and with only 24 added, the total has fallen in the past 12 months.

    Historic England says it has handed out grants totalling £1.51m to help 32 of the region's historic sites and among the buildings saved is the Grade I listed Toll House in Stratford-upon-Avon (pictured below) which has had £197,456 spent on its roof and stonework.

    Other buildings to be saved include a church in Birmingham which was attended by JRR Tolkien, the remains of a blast furnace in Ironbridge and the ruins of Penyard Castle near Ross-on-Wye.

    The surviving crew of HMS Coventry have returned to the Falklands to visit where the ship sank 35 years ago.

    The destroyer was bombed by Argentine Skyhawks and sank in the Atlantic during the conflict in May 1982.

    Twenty sailors died and 29 were injured.

    A team of volunteers who knit toy octopuses for premature babies say they need more knitters to help.

    The charity Octopus for a Preemie, external operates in premature baby units in 60 hospitals across the UK, including the West Midlands.

    So how do they work? The knitted octopuses' tentacles offer the premature babies something to cling to in place of an umbilical cord, as well as helping them to stop pulling out their tubes and wires.

    A woman has denied murdering her seven-year-old son.

    Archie Spriggs was discovered dead at an address in Rushbury Road in Wall-Under-Heywood, near Church Stretton, in September.

    His mother Lesley Speed, 44, pleaded not guilty at Stafford Crown Court this morning and is due to stand trial in March.

    The Food Standards Agency (FSA) came under fire at the Commons select committee hearing yesterday following claims of food safety breaches at the 2 Sisters plant in West Bromwich.

    An undercover investigation by The Guardian and ITV News claimed an undercover reporter witnessed workers changing the "kill dates" on chickens and meat picked off the floor being reused.

    FSA Chief Executive Jason Feeney said previous inspections at the plant had revealed only "minor non-compliances".

    "We had no intelligence on this particular site that gave us concerns prior to these allegations," he said.

    Environment Food and Rural Affairs committee chairman Neil Parish challenged Mr Feeney over the effectiveness of its oversight of food safety

    The fire service was called at 08:56 and they are still at the scene.

    The British car designed to go 1,000mph (1,610km/h) will make its first public runs in Cornwall later, and an Atherstone man will be behind the wheel.

    RAF Wing Commander Andy Green aims to break the world land speed record in 2019.

    Bloodhound SSC is conducting initial "slow-speed" trials and should get up to about 200mph (320km/h) on the runway at Newquay Airport.

    Mr Green said: "We've designed and built the most extraordinary, sophisticated, high-performance land speed record car in history.

    "It will do 0-200mph in about eight seconds. For a five-tonne vehicle - that's eye-popping performance."

    An 18-year-old man is being treated for stab wounds to his back after police were called an area of Birmingham last night.

    West Midlands Police say they were called to Birchfield Road, Aston, at about 18:00.

    The 18-year-old is in a stable condition in hospital.

    On Tuesday night firefighters tackled a blaze which is believed to have been started by the family dog.

    Plastic toys were left near the cooker. The dog had been left alone and somehow managed to turn on the cooker, causing flames to spread across the kitchen.

    Thankfully the owner owner spotted the blaze and rescued the dog who was then given oxygen at the scene.

    The house has been left in an uninhabitable state but thankfully nobody was injured.

    The fire service say this kind of fire, external is not as unusual as you think and remind people not to leave flammable materials on or near their cookers.

    The boss of one of the UK's biggest chicken suppliers has apologised to MPs after allegations of food safety breaches at its West Bromwich processing plant.

    The 2 Sisters Food Group claims to provide a third of all poultry eaten in the UK every day.

    A joint investigation by The Guardian and ITV News last month claimed an undercover reporter witnessed workers changing the "kill dates" on chickens.

    Footage has also emerged appearing to show a worker retrieving meat from the floor and returning to the production line.

    Giving evidence to the Commons Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee, 2 Sisters Chief Executive Ranjit Singh Boparan said he was "absolutely not aware these problems were happening".

    "We produce safe food and we will continue to improve our systems," he said.

    Mr Boparan said the firm planned to increase CCTV coverage in its factories and invited MPs into the plants.

    A bridge over the river Severn in Worcestershire is among a list of sites in the West Midlands added to the "heritage at risk" register by Historic England.

    The 18th Century bridge in Bewdley has shown signs of erosion and needs restoration.

    Across the region, more than 400 buildings, monuments and parks are on the register, with more than £1.5m being spent by Historic England last year to protect them.

    Roy Marren was one of the British Legion's youngest beneficiaries in the 1930s aged just 10, when his father died.

    He served in the armed forces himself during World War Two with the Royal Engineers.

    CCTV footage appears to show a woman standing in Aldi being spoken to by a man, while someone else goes into her handbag.

    Officers say the robbery took place on Tuesday morning at about 10:00 in the supermarket on Oswald Road.
