    An eight-week-old puppy has had to be put down after being found dumped in a children's playground near Evesham.

    The RSPCA said the Chihuahua-Jack Russell cross had a broken leg and bruising to her abdomen. She was lying on a pillow in the park when she was spotted by a passer-by.

    The puppy didn't have a microchip, but the charity says it has launched an investigation to find out where she came from.

    Virgin rail services across the West Midland could be disrupted by a strike by RMT members working on the West Coast line.

    The union voted 9-1 to take industrial action, including strike action, in a dispute over pay.

    The RMT said it wanted a "suitable and equal" pay offer, but Virgin said it had offered an above-average increase already and that it was open to continuing talks.

    One lane is closed and there is queuing traffic between junction two for Oldbury and one for the A41.

    A "human power station" has been unveiled at Coventry railway station by West Midlands Mayor Andy Street.

    It's part of the West Midlands Combined Authority's activity strategy, trying to get people to take part in more exercise.

    A group of 19 shire horses which were left grazing on farmland near Bewdley have been have been found new homes.

    Redwings Horse Sanctuary said it first took a call in September and decided to take action after the owner failed to come forward to claim them.

    The horses, mainly mares and their foals were rounded up last Friday and have now been divided up between six charities.

    The number of unlicensed vehicles on the road has tripled since the paper tax disc was abolished, government figures show, with the highest rates of evasion in the West Midlands.

    The data, published every two years, shows that the government potentially lost out on £107m from 755,000 unlicensed vehicles last year.

    The RAC said the decision to get rid of the paper tax disc three years ago had proved "costly".

    The measure was meant to have saved the Treasury £10m.

  11. MPs call for specific sexual harassment policypublished at 16:03 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2017

    Allegations against MPs must be "as far as possible transparent", a senior minister has said, amid backbench calls for the accused to know the details.

    Commons Leader Andrea Leadsom voiced concerns about some "spurious, wrong, malicious and appalling" accusations made against some MPs, noting they have caused "considerable upset and hurt".

    But several MPs, including Labour MP Jess Phllips, stressed the need for a specific sexual harassment policy to be established.

    The MP for Birmingham Erdington welcomed Mrs Leadsom's statement but said: "I notice it doesn't say the word sexual harassment in it once."

    She backed calls for there to be a "specialist sexual violence service" to give advice to the working group and for people working in Parliament afterwards.

    Mrs Leadsom said an independent expert in sexual harassment will advise the working party.

    A four-vehicle crash on the M1 southbound, between junctions 19 and 18, is currently causing severe delays, police say.

    All traffic on the southbound carriageway was held for a time, but lanes have just reopened.

    A cake made to celebrate the Queen's wedding in 1947 has been restored to its former glory using 3D scanning technology at the University of Warwick.

    At the same time it presented the cake to the Queen, Peek Frean also produced a replica to mark the occasion. This was almost destroyed by vandals who broke into the company's factory in 2015, where it was on display.

    University staff however have been able to scan the cake, creating a 3D model that was then used to digitally repair the original.

    The tiers were then sent to members of the British Sugarcraft Guild across the country who reproduced the delicate sugarwork.

    The finished cake will be unveiled at the Peek Frean Museum at the end of November to mark the Queen's 70th wedding anniversary.

    A 19th Century building in Oswestry that has been a school, and more recently a restaurant, could be turned into homes.

    The Walls restaurant closed its doors last year when the owners retired, and has been put on the market for £525,000.

    The building isn't listed and the sellers say a pre-application has been made to convert it into seven homes, with three more in the grounds.

    Agents, Towler Shaw Roberts, said there is also scope for the property to continue as a restaurant.

    Warwickshire are expected to name their captain for next season's Championship before Christmas.

    Jonathan Trott led the Bears for the closing weeks of the 2017 season after Ian Bell stood down.

    The county have released 21-year-old all-rounder Mark Adair, who made 11 first-team appearances in all competitions over the last three seasons.

    Two men have escaped with only minor injuries after their light aircraft overshot the runway, went through two hedges and over a road.

    It happened at Halfpenny Green Airport at Bobbington at about 11:40.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service said airport firefighters were at the scene "almost immediately".

    The crash ripped off the left side wing of the aircraft as it came to rest in a field.

    Both men managed to get out of the aircraft and one was taken to hospital after suffering cuts and bruises plus a laceration to his head.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service said their escape was all the more remarkable "considering what had happened to the aircraft".

    The monsterous pies at Kidderminster Harriers are still more expensive than anything covered in the BBC's Price of Football study.

    Their cottage pies, served in a foil dish and topped with potato, cost fans £5.

    That's 50p more than the next most expensive pie in England, Wales and Ireland, which are served at Fulham.

    And Harriers are very proud of their pie.

    A Worcestershire mum has said Prince William's new anti-bullying initiative could have helped her son, before he took his life.

    Felix Alexander killed himself after being targeted on social media and Lucy Alexander met the prince yesterday to discuss the issue of cyber-bullying.

    She told Prince William: "It just ate away at him inside, I think, but I had no idea of the depth of his despair at all."

    And she welcomed the online counselling and new code of conduct he is pushing for, saying it "may not have changed my story, but it's got to be a step forward".

    Delia Derbyshire, best known as the uncredited creator of the Doctor Who theme tune, is to be honoured by Coventry University for her contribution to electronic music.

    A sonic innovator in the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, the Coventry-born composer received very little acclaim during her lifetime but her reputation has grown since her death in 2001.

    She'll receive an Honorary degree of arts on Monday.

    Music historian and writer Pete Chambers, who run's the city's 2-Tone Museum, will also receive an honorary degree for his significant contribution to the city’s music heritage, the university said.
