    West Midlands Ambulance Service say they arrived just after 06:15 on the A441 Redditch Road near the Hopwood House in Alvechurch.

    Paramedics say the pedestrian died at the scene.

    Both Stoke-on-Trent and Coventry are making a last push on social media in their bids to be crowned UK City of Culture for 2021.

    An announcement is being made on Thursday and both cities are encouraging people to use the hashtags #sot2021 and #ThisisCoventry on Twitter, to impress the judges.

    One of their rivals, Sunderland, has got #Sunderland2021 trending on Twitter today.

    Other places in the running are #Paisley, which was trending yesterday, and Swansea.

    The Birmingham and the Black Country Wildlife Trust says it's part of the recently launched Salmon in the Stour project., external

    The scheme has several aims including removing barriers to fish migration and creating more habitats for threatened wildlife including salmon and otters.

    The wildlife trust says the "otter spotters" will help check along the River Stour to see where otters are thriving and where they're not.

    A man's in hospital with serious injuries after being found in Perry Bar, Birmingham, with a stab wound to the arm.

    Police say they were called to the scene in Canterbury Road just before 02:00 where they found the 34-year-old.

    A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

    The road was closed this morning for forensic examinations to take place.

    All rail lines between Darlington and Durham are blocked due to the emergency services dealing with an incident.

    Trains to and from Birmingham to the area are likely to be delayed or cancelled, with disruption set to last until at least 12:30.

    Eighty-six motorists have been fined for dangerous and inconsiderate parking.

    Officers in Birmingham were on the lookout for vehicles parked on pavements, causing traffic obstructions or parked hazardously at junctions.

    PC Mark Hodson, from West Midlands Police said the behaviour "isn’t just a nuisance, it can have fatal consequences and we’re determined to show motorists that it’s not acceptable".

    Labour peer Baroness Joan Bakewell revealed to the House of Lords the 69-year-old former Led Zeppelin singer, who lives near Kidderminster, stopped her in the street demanding to know why he was getting the annual allowance worth up to £300.

    She said the heating allowance for older people should be means tested and when she first received it she tried to send it back but there was no facility for doing this.

    An historic house in Shropshire could soon be removed from an "at risk register" after its new owners began a restoration project.

    Pitchford Hall near Shrewsbury was in the same family for four centuries but the house fell into disrepair after being sold during the 1990s.

    The former owner's daughter has now bought it back and, together with her husband, is trying to secure its future.

    A man has been charged after a grenade was found, forcing a road to be closed.

    Blurton Road in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, was closed on Sunday after the grenade was discovered at a house - nearby homes were also evacuated.

    Police say a 28-year-old man has been charged with possession of an explosive substance for unlawful purpose.

    Free courses about type 2 diabetes are being offered to people who have the condition in Telford.

    About 500 places are available on the courses being led by specialist diabetes nurses and are funded by Telford and Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Group.

    More than 10,000 people in the borough have diabetes and the trust says prevention and treatment of the condition is a top priority.

    A Shropshire firm is warning of a scam where it was vastly overcharged for work and then intimidated if it complained.

    Bauromat Limited, in Telford, agreed to pay £600 to workmen for sharpening tools at its factory and was shocked when that increased to £6,000.

    The managing director says firms across the country have since contacted him to say they've fallen victim to similar scams.
