    Port Vale's hopes of getting through to the third round of the FA Cup are over after they were beaten in extra-time by Yeovil.

    The Vale ended the match with nine men after Cristian Montano and James Gibbons were sent off for fouls.

    They took the game into extra-time when Marcus Harness equalised to make it 1-1 and again came from behind through Antony Kay before finally losing 3-2.

    The family of missing Coventry mother Nicola Payne is launching a new website to appeal for information to mark the 26th anniversary of her disappearance.

    The mother-of-one was last seen in 1991, on 14 December, on her way to her parents' house in the city.

    Her family has not only created a website but increased the reward money from £10,000 to £30,000 for any information leading to the recovery of Nicola's body.

    The market town of Ludlow is "returning to normal" today after the heavy snow and icy conditions of the past few days.

    Local councillor Andy Boddington says most schools, except some rural ones, are open and the market is "back in operation".

    He says there's still ice and snow on side streets and pavements and car parks have yet to be cleared.

    In a post on his website, external, Mr Boddington adds that buses are expected to run normally and all council and medical services are expected to run as normal.

    Stoke City boss Mark Hughes says he was "encouraged" by his team's performance in defeat at Burnley last night.

    That's despite the result meaning that the 16 points Stoke have taken from their opening 17 games is their lowest at this stage of a Premier League season.

    Burnley substitute Ashley Barnes struck two minutes from time to give the Clarets a 1-0 win.

    Injuries suffered by a policeman, who was stabbed in the neck and chest while attempting to arrest a suspect, are not thought to be life-threatening.

    The West Midlands officer, aged 26, suffered two stab wounds when he was attacked by a man at an address in Wood End Road, Erdington, Birmingham.

    A cannabis-growing operation in Stoke-on-Trent was in danger of exploding because the amount of power being drawn had melted a fuse board, Staffordshire Police have said.

    Officers forced their way into a property on Elm Street in Cobridge at 14:00, and found more than 250 plants.

    A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the discovery and police are still working at the scene.

  18. Big changes to footbridgepublished at 18:28 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2017

    Some major changes are happening at Telford Central railway station this week.

    Over the weekend, a 300-tonne crane removed two 18-tonne sections of the ramps leading to the old footbridge, which leads to Telford town centre

    And on Tuesday evening, more sections of the ramps will be removed.

    Telford and Wrekin Council says that from Wednesday morning, passengers will be asked to use a new ramp leading to the bridge.

    The work, which takes people across Rampart Way, is part of a £10.3m project.
