    Shropshire Council says its gritting lorries since Thursday have carried out, on average, 20 runs on each route.

    The fleet has used 3,400 tonnes of salt, with 14,000 tonnes remaining in the authority's reserves.

    A charity supporting people with mental health issues says it is closing due to a lack of funding.

    North Staffs Voice for Mental Health, external has been speaking out for people who need services for more than 20 years, and has more than 1,300 members.

    The Hanley-based charity will close on 20 December and says it has suffered from cuts to local government and NHS budgets, and has struggled to find alternative funding.

    A 22-year-old Birmingham man has been jailed for his part in a conspiracy to supply heroin and crack cocaine into the towns of Kettering and Corby in Northamptonshire.

    Jamal Marshall, 22, from Wheeleys Lane, was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday to eight and a half years in prison.

    Police say the gang traveled from Birmingham to the Northampton towns daily, buying and selling drugs on a "commercial scale".

    In April, three other men were also jailed for their parts in the operation, external.

    The Stoke City manager Mark Hughes says the pressure he and the team is under is nothing new and that a win at Burnley tonight will help lighten the mood.

    The club is 15th in the table after a 5-1 defeat to Tottenham.

    The animal rights charity PETA is calling on Worcestershire County Council to erect a permanent memorial to a number of turkeys who died on the M5 last week.

    A trailer overturned near junction five, leaving 600 birds on the road, some of which were killed.

    The charity wants to see a tribute to the turkeys placed by the side of the road, to highlight their suffering and encourage people to go vegan.

    Worcestershire County Council has responded by saying it wants to "keep the roads clear of any extra distractions".

    A pedestrian who died after he was hit by a truck on the A50 at the weekend was 35-year-old John Rigby from Meir Park in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire Police said.

    He died at the scene of the collision at Normacot on Saturday evening. Police are appealing for witnesses.

    Birmingham City Council has announced it needs to save £111m by 2022 and needs to dip into almost £20m of its reserve money to balance the books over the next year.

    Council Tax will also go up by just under 5%.

    Council leader Ian Ward said the bin strike earlier this year, which cost about £6.6m, had "clearly not helped matters".

    He said "there's no end in sight" to the "hard decisions the council has to make".

    Union leaders are urging Sir Richard Branson to intervene in a dispute over pay which is set to spark a series of strikes on Virgin Trains West Coast, affecting services from London to Birmingham.

    Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) and Transport Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA) are due to walk out on Friday and the following Friday, and on four dates in January.

    The RMT said it wanted a "suitable and equal" pay offer to the £500 one given to drivers.

    The company said it would keep the majority of trains running despite the industrial action.

    A murder trial over a man found dead at a roadside cafe in Shropshire is under way.

    Belkar Singh, 58, from Halfway House, is accused of killing Satnam Singh Blugher, 67, who was found dead with serious head and torso injuries on 26 June at Tony's Diner, also in Halfway House, where he lived.
