    A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of arson, external after a house fire in Stoke-on-Trent in which a dog died.

    Police say emergency services were called to Cumberland Street, Fenton, in the early hours of this morning and rescued the people inside the home.

    But they say two dogs were also inside and one of them died. The other is getting veterinary care.

    A 48-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman are in police custody.

    The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for most of the region, external, covering the period between 20:00 on Monday and 12:00 Tuesday.

    It says the fog is likely to mean slower journeys and could see flights from airports delayed or even cancelled.

    All rail lines in and out of London Euston are blocked as emergency services deal with an incident between Milton Keynes Central and Watford Junction, Virgin Trains says.

    Virgin Trains tickets are being accepted on Chiltern Rail between London Marylebone and Birmingham Snow Hill.

    West Midlands Railway is accepting tickets via any reasonable route until further notice.

    Two women from Herefordshire and Worcestershire have reached the south pole, halfway through their attempt to become the first all-female group to ski coast-to-coast across Antarctica.

    Investigating officers say they believe a group of five men became involved in a dispute with the 26-year-old on the number 14 as it travelled along Saltley Road, Nechells, just after 15:50 on Friday.

    The flood barriers on the River Severn in Shrewsbury are being taken down this morning as the Environment Agency says river levels in the county are falling.

    There are just two flood alerts in the area, for the Severn Vyrnwy Confluence, external and the Tern and Perry Catchments in Shropshire, external and, in both cases, the agency says the level is slowly going down.

    A 999 caller asked whether the police would send someone to collect him from Droitwich when he couldn't get home.

    When the caller offered the operator some money and a kiss to sweeten the deal, he was advised to phone a taxi instead, the West Mercia force said.

    It is one of several time-wasting 999 calls shared by police forces on Monday. They want the public to think twice before bothering 999 operators with non-emergencies.

    One person phoned police to complain that their parcel delivery was late and couriers couldn't provide a reasonable explanation.

    And take a look at this one from Warwickshire Police which also received a 999 call to complain about energy tariffs.

    A fundraising page set up for the victims of the Birmingham crash has raised more than £3,700.

    The Birmingham Mail set up the page on behalf of the Lord Mayor's Charity Appeal and editor Marc Reeves said: "The impact of the appalling accident on the heart of our city will be felt for years to come."

    Three men have been arrested after burglars forced their way into a house in Stoke-on-Trent and threatened people with knives. , external

    It happened on Dennington Crescent, Blurton, last night, police said, with jewellery and some cash being taken.

    No-one was hurt although police said those in the house were "left extremely shaken".

    Officers have arrested the three men, all from Stoke-on-Trent, on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

    Along with 33-year-old taxi driver Imtiaz Mohammed, the two cab passengers to die were a woman, aged 43, and a man, 42, police say.

    The West Midlands force has been updating information about Sunday's horror crash in Birmingham and said the three other people killed, who had been travelling in another vehicle, were men aged 30, 26 and 25.

    Another man in their Audi was hurt. The 22-year-old remains in a serious condition in hospital.

    More than 20 firefighters were needed to put out the blaze at The Jervis Arms pub in Onecote last night.
