    An inquest has opened into the death of a teenager who went missing after attending the Royal Welsh Show at Builth Wells last summer.

    James Corfield from Montgomery, who was a member of Shropshire-based Chirbury and Marton Young Farmers Club, was later found in the River Wye.

    The police officer who led the search for the 19-year-old, Inspector Andrew Pitt, has been giving evidence and thanked hundreds of volunteers who assisted.

    He said police helicopter, boat and dive teams worked with mountain rescue crews, the fire service and search dog handlers.

    A man who has admitted taking two people hostage during a siege at a Nuneaton bowling alley can expect a "lengthy custodial sentence" said a judge at Warwickshire Justice Centre today.

    David Clarke, 53, of Ryde Avenue, Nuneaton, spoke only to confirm his name and enter pleas at the hearing today.

    According to a psychiatric report he was suffering from an episode of depression at the time of the seige and had taken a mixture of tramadol, diazepam and vodka.

    Sentencing has now been adjourned for a pre-sentencing report and he's due back in court on 2 March for sentencing.

    A six-month-old cat which was stuck on the roof of a house in Leamington overnight, for 13 hours, has been rescued by the fire service.

    Mabel had climbed out of a window the day before and her owners had been unable to coax her down.

    But as soon as a ladder went up, she leapt on the back of the first firefighter and clung on until she was brought to the ground.

    A surgeon who marked his initials on the livers of two transplant patients has been sentenced to a 12-month community order and fined £10,000.

    Simon Bramhall, 53, from Tarrington, Herefordshire, branded the organs while patients were undergoing transplants at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

    Bramhall resigned after a disciplinary hearing with University Hospitals Birmingham Foundation Trust in May 2014.

    Police have confirmed a body found in the River Severn is that of 72-year-old Leung Yap, also known as Mary Yap, who went missing from her home in Malvern in November.

    The discovery was made on Saturday at Ryall, near Upton upon Severn.

    The railway station at Nottingham will probably be closed all day, the National Rail website, external reports.

    Services will be disrupted on all routes through Nottingham until the end of service.

    Trains between Cardiff Central/Birmingham New Street and Nottingham are terminating at, and starting back, from Derby. Road service is being provided towards Nottingham.

    A CrossCountry hourly train service is shuttling between Derby and Beeston stations, calling at Spondon, Long Eaton, and Attenborough additionally (in both directions).

    The station has been closed by a severe fire.

    Engineering firm GKN, which has bases in Birmingham, Telford, Redditch and Leek, has rejected a £7bn takeover bid.

    Melrose, a manufacturing turnaround firm, made the offer on 8 January and causing shares in GKN, which makes parts for Airbus and Boeing and employs 56,000 people around the world to jump by more than a quarter.

    The GKN board said the cash and shares bid was "entirely opportunistic" and "fundamentally" undervalued GKN.

    Plans to staff one of Crewe's two fire engines with an on-call crew, rather than full-time firefighters have been opposed by Cheshire East councillors.

    The county's fire authority is due to make a decision on the proposals next month, but members of the authority argued it would be a downgrading of services.

    A man accused of taking two people hostage during a four-hour siege at a bowling alley in Nuneaton has admitted false imprisonment and being in possession of an imitation firearm.

    David Clarke was arrested after the stand-off at MFA Bowl in Bermuda Park, Nuneaton, in October.

    Appearing at Warwickshire Justice Centre today the 53-year-old, of Ryde Avenue, admitted the following offences:

    • Two counts of false imprisonment
    • Two counts of possession of a bladed article - one samurai sword and one knife
    • Possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence
    • Possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause an indictable offence
    • Criminal damage

    Clarke pleaded not guilty to possessing an imitation firearm which has been accepted by the prosecution.
