What the council hasn't seen is the human side, the distress, and the trust that we have to do to hand over our children. It is the trust factor, it is the knowing my daughter, which takes a long time."

More than 8,000 people have now signed a petition against the closure.

Tina Southall's daughter Dalcie , externaluses the service. She said it would take time for her family to be able to adjust to using a new provider.

Worcestershire County Council says it's offered to speak to each family individually and Ludlow Road's closure is one of many options being considered.

Our officers immediately ran into the thick of a very confusing situation. The same is to be said for our colleagues in the fire and ambulance services. The public’s response to the situation was just brilliant. Whether it was picking up the phone and reporting the explosion, helping to shelter evacuees or just offering their support to the emergency services on Twitter they really did their city proud."
