There have been a number of objections, external from local residents on a number of issues, including the visual impact, disturbance of bell noise and disturbance from the performing arts centre.

The planning and conservation officer for the council who reviewed the plans concluded: "The frame of half a spire-like structure – is designed to act as an ‘eye-catcher’; to add another such structure to the city skyline."

    Quote Message

We're in favour of the arts centre, that is needed, but basically the bell tower is a phallic symbol. We will do whatever we can to at least destroy the bell tower. There is no need. It will go into disuse and become a blot and eyesore on the horizon.
