    This Gloster Meteor T7, based at Coventry airport, is going to a museum in Detroit.

    The aircraft was the first jet fighter used by the RAF and powered by engines designed by Sir Frank Whittle.

    A 28-year-old man who was freed from the wreckage of his car on Friday night remains in a critical condition in hospital, Staffordshire Police have said.

    The VW Polo he was driving left the road on the A38 at Lichfield's Fradley Park junction and he was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.

    Sir Patrick Stewart has called for medicinal cannabis to be legalised as he gave his support to a young Kenilworth boy hoping to receive the treatment for epilepsy.

    Alfie Dingley has a very rare form of the illness that causes up to 150 seizures per month, and his parents want the government to let him use cannabis oil to help with his symptoms.

    Sir Patrick, who uses medicinal cannabis to treat his arthritis while living in California, met Alfie and his family and gave his support to the campaign.

    He said: "How could one not support Alfie? "Hearing what his life has been and the benefits given to him by being able to use medicinal marijuana.

    The 23-year-old driver, Shaun Boyce, was also one of the first passengers on the city's bendy bus fleet.

    "On the first day in service I went out on them as a schoolboy to the train station to be the first passenger on the bus.

    A new campaign to raise awareness of child sexual exploitation is being launched.

    Dudley Council is promoting a hard-hitting film, Called ‘Gaming with AJ – the warning signs were there’, which shows how the hidden crime can be spotted.

    It follows the story of fictional gaming vlogger AJ, who’s targeted by an abuser.

    Produced by the regional "See Me, Hear Me, external" partnership the film shows how an offender grooms his victim with gaming tips and free gifts to gain his trust before abusing him.

  10. Murder charge after man dragged by carpublished at 17:32 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2018

    A man has been charged with murdering a pedestrian who was dragged by a car through West Bromwich on Saturday.

    West Midlands Police said 22-year-old Mohammed Miah died following the incident in High Street at 02.40.

    Paul Emmerson, 38, of Kemp Road, Kitts Green, is accused of the murder and has been remanded in custody to appear before Birmingham magistrates tomorrow.

    Mr Miah's family said he "was a character, he was full of life and never without a smile on his face. Mohammed was kind hearted, courageous, caring and most of all he was selfless".

    "He always put the needs of others before his own, making him the best brother, cousin, nephew, son and friend anybody could ask for."

    An international conference on flood prevention is under way at the Telford International Centre.

    More than 200 speakers and 80 exhibitors will be attending over the next three days.

    G4S says one there was an attempt to rob one of its vans in Newport this morning.

    It happened as a security guard was making a delivery to Lloyds Bank on the high street.

    Owner Marty Tibbits said it will be the first Meteor still capable of flying in the United States.

    A bill aimed at helping victims of domestic, giving them access to lifetime tenancies, was given an unopposed second reading by MPs.

    During the debate MPs were told victims of domestic violence from Birmingham were being sent to other parts of the country.

    "This short and focused bill is an important part of the government's wider aim of supporting victims of domestic abuse to leave their abusive situation and ensuring that they and their families are provided with the stability and security they need and deserve," said communities minister Heather Wheeler.

    The family of a young boy with severe epilepsy say the government has agreed he should be given a licence to use medicinal cannabis oil.

    Drew Dingley and Hannah Deacon, parents of six-year-old Alfie, handed a 380,000-strong petition to Downing Street.

    Ms Deacon, of Kenilworth, said the meeting was a success and ministers have approved in principle Alfie being issued with a special licence for the medicine.

    "We had a positive meeting, they accept the compassionate issuing of a licence for Alfie," she said.

    "Now we need our medical professionals to write the prescription and they will expedite the licence for him."

    They were joined by Sir Patrick Stewart who also gave his support to the campaign.

    Police have said a pistol found in a canal in Cheshire last week is a replica BB gun.

    It was discovered by a member of the public after a stretch of the Shropshire Union Canal in Middlewich drained when the embankment collapsed.

    The gun, which was covered in silt, was taken away for tests, and today Cheshire Police have said it was an air weapon.
