    A man has been arrested after a women was found stabbed outside a church in Coventry in the early hours of Sunday morning.

    West Midlands Police said , external they arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder. He is being questioned by officers.

    The woman - discovered with a stab wound to her abdomen outside St Margaret's on Walsgrave Road - has not been named and remains in a critical condition in hospital.

    Police say she is believed to have been stabbed with a knife.

    Two of the people behind the Birmingham side of the Commonwealth Games handover at the weekend are "excited and proud" to showcase their work to an international TV audience.

    The Gold Coast in Australia passes on the baton to the 2022 host on Sunday.

    Daniel Alexander, who's made "We're from Birmingham", says his film is packed with "tonnes of Birmingham's personality".

    He said: "For me it was one of the most important things. Birmingham's people are the heart of the city. This is one of the biggest stages that Birmingham has ever had."

    Rapper Lady Sanity is also due to perform and says she is "up for a challenge".

    She said: "We just want it to showcase our amazing talents as a city. I just want the performance to be as good as possible."

    Police said there was a "large number of people" at the scene of a crash , externalwhich left a toddler dead and his mother critically injured.

    The boy, two, was with three other siblings when he and his mother were hit by a car in Coventry last night.

    The woman, 32, sustained multiple fractures, police said. She is in a critical condition in hospital, where her son died of his injuries.

    Emergency bus tickets are being handed out to homeless people across the West Midlands so they can access practical help more easily.

    It's part of a pilot scheme being run by National Express West Midlands and comes in the form of a scratch card.

    Outreach workers can issue day passes to get a rough sleeper to a hostel, a benefits appointment or a doctor.

    Robert Haden, 68, from Knypersley, was riding his Kawasaki on Friday afternoon when the collision happened on Camrose Hill, near the junction with Top Road.

    Police said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

    "A global advert for Birmingham" - the executive producer for Birmingham 2022 is giving a briefing to the media as the next host city prepares for the Gold Coast's handover.

    West Midlands Police officers mistakenly filled patrol cars with the wrong type of fuel more than 60 times last year.

    The figures, from a Freedom of Information request by the Press Association, show the force recorded the most incidents in the country - 66 - which cost it £3,737 in repairs.

    Its fleet manager says it's largely down to the force moving away from in-house re-fuelling since 2013 in favour of petrol stations.

    The gymnast who competes for Park Wrekin Club in Telford only turned 17 last month.

    The party of five, who were not in a vehicle, had been visiting family, police said, when the two-year-old boy and his mother were struck by a Volkswagon Bora on Stoney Stanton Road last night.

    The toddler suffered serious injuries and died in hospital while the 32-year-old woman suffered several fractures and was left in a critical condition.

    Police said the three siblings were unhurt.

    The West Midlands force added the 39-year-old driver was helping with enquiries.

    Tributes have been paid to a pedestrian from Shropshire killed when he was hit by a car near Keswick on the A66.

    James Greenwood, 61, from Market Drayton, died when he was hit by a silver BMW 1 Series, just after 00:30 on Saturday at Braithwaite.

    In a statement his family said: "Jimmy was a keen biker who had a larger than life personality, with family and friends at the centre of everything he did."

    Two men and a woman from west Cumbria arrested in connection with the collision have been released under investigation, Cumbria Police said.
