    A fire that started on a griddle at Burger King in Walsall has spread to the roof, West Midlands Fire Service says.

    About 30 firefighters are at the scene of the "severe" blaze on Park Street, to where they were called shortly after 09:00.

    There are no reports of injuries to staff or the public, the fire service says.

    Six laser pen attacks aimed towards aircraft bound for Birmingham Airport have been reported to police since 20 May, the West Midlands force says., external

    Officers believe the aircraft are being targeted from the Sheldon or Yardley areas of Birmingham, and happening between 21:00 and midnight.

    A force spokesperson said: "These attacks are disorientating for the pilot, making it impossible for them to focus on the instrument panel.

    "This is extremely dangerous as even a momentary loss of control can be crucial."

    Halfords, the cycling and car maintenance company, has reported a 5% fall in underlying pre-tax profits to £71.6m on full-year revenue up 2% at £1.1bn.

    Like-for-like sales for the 12 months to 30 March rose by 2%, lifted by the Redditch company's cycling business.

    For the year, like-for-like sales in Halfords' bike unit rose by 2.9% despite a sharp fall in recent trading which saw same store revenue slide by 4.1% in the last 11 weeks of its financial year.

    Chief executive Graham Stapleton, in his first annual results announcement for Halfords since joining the company from Carphone Warehouse, said: "We are pleased with the full-year performance in a challenging retail environment, with profits in line with expectations."

    A charity which supports victims of terror attacks, including survivors of the Manchester bombing, has been given an extra £50,000 to keep it running.

    Climbing Out, which is based in Shropshire, runs activity programmes for young people who have suffered serious mental or physical injury and it says the funding will allow it to continue for another four years.

    The money has come from the Manchester Tattoo appeal, which was set up to support families of those killed or injured in the Manchester Arena attack.

    Models of 30 Birmingham residents, with links to Windrush, were created for the display using 3D printing techniques.

    Assistant Director for Birmingham Council, Darren Share, tweeted, external it was the seventh consecutive flower show medal for the authority.

    An inspection of a high security prison in Worcestershire, external has found it to be "stable and well-controlled".

    Since the previous inspection of HMP Long Lartin, in 2014, there have been several serious incidents including two murders and an attack on staff.

    Peter Clarke, the chief inspector of prisons, said despite the clear risk posed by the prison population, inspectors found a "well-controlled environment, where most prisoners reported that they felt safe".

    A new theatre production marking the life and career of West Bromwich Albion player Jeff Astle is being staged in Birmingham this week.

    The show - at The Crescent Theatre for three nights from Thursday - coincides with the 50th anniversary of Jeff scoring the winning goal in the FA cup final against Everton in May 1968.

    The footballer from Derbyshire died in 2002 aged 59 - he had early onset dementia.

    The Labour member for Warwick and Leamington says there have been almost 2,000 manufacturing job losses in the last six months, including 1,000 temporary workers at Jaguar Land Rover; one of the largest employers for his constituents.

    Supporters used crowdfunding to raise more than £65,000 to pay for the work.

    A new gallery is to be built at Cheshire's Jodrell Bank , externalafter the Discovery Centre was awarded more than £16m from the Heritage Lottery Fund and central government.

    The project is called "First Light at Jodrell Bank" and will celebrate its place in the history of astronomy.

    The University of Manchester, which owns the site, says the scheme will cost a total of £20.5m, take three years to finish and create 19 jobs.
