    More details have been given by police after a 26-year-old man died after being spotted half naked by a road.

    The man, who has not been named, was seen walking along Turnhurst Road, Packmoor, Stoke-on-Trent, at about 13:35 in a "distressed state" - covered in blood and wearing just a pair of black shorts and socks.

    The man was seen as "acting aggressively towards several people and attempting to get into a number of cars being driven", police said.

    He was stopped by police and taken to hospital by ambulance but later died.

    A teenager arrested over the murder of an 87-year-old man has been released under investigation.

    Arthur "Bob" Gumbley was found on the floor of his home following a violent burglary in Endwood Drive, Sutton Coldfield, on 21 November.

    He died in hospital three weeks later.

    The teenager, from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested in Basingstoke, Hampshire, in connection with the murder, Staffordshire Police said on Saturday.

    Two people who appeared in court over a woman's murder have denied charges against them.

    Terri Louise Webb, 39, went missing from Hereford in November 2016. Her body was found in the River Wye a month later.

    Ian Palamountain, 47, from Huskinson Drive, Hereford, who has been charged with her murder, has pleaded not guilty during a hearing a Worcester Crown Court.

    Louise Patricia Bridges, 29, from Mayberry Avenue, Hereford, who was charged with assisting an offender, has also pleaded not guilty.

    A trial date has been set for 24 January, next year.

  5. Police car crashes enroute to 999 callpublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 29 May 2018

    An unmarked police car responding to an emergency was involved in a crash on the A449 in Hartlebury yesterday afternoon.

    A 54-year-old man was flown by air ambulance to the QE Hospital in Birmingham with serious injuries.

    None of the police officers were injured and the crash has now been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, West Mercia Police says.

    Warwickshire Police issued an image of the man thought to have gone into the water on Friday and now believe it to be Cameron Whelan, 26, from Moseley, Birmingham.

    Officers remain at Waterside, Stratford, with searches running throughout the day.

    Police are urging Cameron or anyone who knows of his whereabouts to contact them.

    A fault with the signalling system , externalbetween Birmingham New Street and Lichfield Trent Valley is causing disruption to journeys between these stations, the National Rail website reports.

    Trains may be cancelled or delayed.

    Road transport is in operation and Network Rail hopes the Cross City line will be back to normal by 2pm.

    The Environment Agency is "reviewing its flooding scheme" following the devastating floods in Birmingham over the weekend.

    Joe Cuthbertson, the agency's national expert, spoke about Selly Oak North and why the area wasn’t as well protected as the south of the city.

    He went on: "We will review our latest timescales for delivery - it has been delayed."

    Mr Cuthbertson also told how finger pointing is not helpful, but they are "reaching out to the community."

    West Midlands MEP Jim Carver is resigning from UKIP - saying he's found himself increasingly out of kilter with the party.

    Mr Carver, who lives in Worcestershire, says he'll see out his term in the European Parliament as an Independent.

    A man accused of murdering a van driver killed in a crash has appeared in court.

    Daniel Blount, 31, was fatally injured in the collision in Kingstanding, Birmingham, on 25 April and his two passengers were seriously hurt.

    Andre Thomas, 25, of Cradley Croft, Handsworth, Birmingham, is charged with murder.

    He remains in custody and will appear again at Birmingham Crown Court on 22 June.

    An academy trust which operates schools in Leeds, Manchester and Stoke-on-Trent is hoping to recruit teachers in Northern Ireland in a bid to help tackle a shortage of staff in England.

    The Co-op Academies Trust, which operates 12 schools, says there are more newly qualified teachers than jobs in Northern Ireland.

    The trust currently has more than 10,000 students and employs more than 1,000 teachers and support staff - with those numbers set to quadruple by 2022, according to the Co-op.

    A young family's escaped from what's believed to be deliberate house fire in Fenton in the early hours of Monday.

    The couple and their young child got out of the property after being woken up by the smoke alarm.

    Staffordshire Police believe it was started deliberately and is appealing for witnesses.

    Fire crews were called to Wileman Street shortly before 04:30.

  14. Plans over £4m motorway bypass unveiledpublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 29 May 2018

    A £4mi project to revitalise a controversial motorway bypass have been unveiled.

    The Western Orbital scheme – known as the Wolverhampton bypass – failed to be approved in the 1990s and 2000s over pollution fears.

    But now a West Midlands Combined Authority report has revealed that Midlands Connect is to use government funding to reignite the scheme.

    The 40-mile highway would cut through countryside at the M5 junction, 4a at Bromsgrove, to junction 2 of the M54.

    Maria Machancoses, Midlands Connect Director, said: "Our Midlands Motorway Hub study recommends undertaking more work to understand the economic and social case for a Western Strategic Route linking the M5 and M6, and is one of a wide range of proposals that requires further analysis."

    Earlier we reported that Paul Hurst was in talks with Ipswich after Shrewsbury Town "reluctantly" gave him permission. Well, the deal has been done - and he's on his way to Suffolk.

  19. Anti-domestic violence campaign launched ahead of World Cuppublished at 10:27 British Summer Time 29 May 2018

    A campaign to show domestic abuse the red card ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup has been launched.

    Warwickshire and West Mercia Police are seeking to stamp out domestic abuse and encourage victims to seek help.

    Reports of abuse can rise during international football competitions, a spokesman said.

    The police force dealt with 190 domestic abuse crimes throughout the tournament four years ago, with research showing the average victim will suffer in excess of 50 incidents before they tell anyone.

    Det Ch Insp Andy Nolan said abusers are being warned there will be consequences for their actions.
