Ironbridge Power Station has been sold to regeneration company Harworth Group.
The 350-acre (141-hectare) site in Shropshire, which used to burn coal before converting to burning wood chips, closed in November 2015.
Harworth Group said it "specialises in the regeneration of former coalfield sites and other brownfield land into employment areas, new residential developments and low carbon energy projects".
Shropshire Council said in its local development plan the land might be suitable for homes.

Drivers in Birmingham could be charged between £6 and £10 per day for entering a proposed clean air zone, including parts of the city centre.
The levy could be up to £100 for HGVs and vehicles of a similar weight.
