Plans to create a car park to ease congestion around a Stoke-on-Trent mosque have been withdrawn because of an unspecified "procedural issue".
More than 400 people have signed a petition calling for the 25-space car park to be created on Lower Spring Road and traffic surveys found 63 vehicles either double parked or parked on the pavement on one Friday last month.
Stoke-on-Trent city council now plans to resubmit an amended application, but will have to consult on the proposals, which have been opposed by some because it will mean six trees being chopped down.
It said the decision to withdraw the original application was made "after considering legal advice earlier this week on an alleged procedural issue".

A public inquiry into the performance of Diamond Buses in the Wyre Forest has heard evidence that 15% of services are early, late or don’t turn up at all.
At a hearing in Kidderminster this morning, the Traffic Commissioner for the West Midlands was told an investigation had shown Diamond's reliability in the area was worse than in the rest of the region.
If judged not good enough by the Commissioner, the bus company could have its operating licence suspended or revoked.

In the year to March 2018 there were 20 murders involving a knife in the West Midlands.
The Chief Constable of West Midlands Police, Dave Thompson, said "heart to heart" conversations could save lives.
He described the deaths of 15-year-old Keelan Wilson and Ozell Pemberton, 16, last month as "sickening" and said "we owe it to young people to work with them to make them safe".

A bus company in Birmingham has apologised after some customers were left unable to access free tickets it had promised.
National Express West Midlands offered passengers a day of free travel today to people who downloaded Clean Air Day tickets using the company's app.
The site was closed for a time overnight "due to extremely high volumes of requests" the company said.
"We needed to make sure that we could process all the requests securely, and also make sure customers weren’t requesting tickets overnight that we couldn’t fulfill before the morning.”
The site was back up and running, external, just after 08:00 today it said.

Barbara Fielding-Morriss stood as an independent in a by-election, and the general election in 2017, and is representing herself at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.
The 79-year-old yesterday told to the court she despises Jewish people and that Adolf Hitler was the greatest leader the Germans had ever had, but denies the articles published on her website between 30 September 2016 and 15 September 2017 were threats.
Her final statement to the jury was: "Don’t mind if you find me guilty as I’ve done my best to save you from extinction.”
The case is continuing with the jury is expected to retire later.
