    People may be forced to sell land they own near a major set of traffic lights in Stoke-on-Trent so it can be widened.

    More than £5m is set to be spent on improving the Cobridge Road junction with Waterloo Road, after plans were approved by the city council. , external

    But, for the project to go ahead, the authority's admitted it may have to use compulsory purchase orders to buy nearby land to complete the scheme.

    Plans for a new food and green waste recycling plant , externalin Crewe have been approved.

    The site where the new composting plant will be built

    Under the proposals, the site would take 75,000 tonnes of waste from kerbside collections as well as industrial and commercial businesses.

    Biowise was today given planning permission for the plant on land off Middlewich Road.

    Put the garden sprinkler away, stop taking baths and cancel the car wash.

    Severn Trent Water says it needs people to cut their water usage as, external, in the hot weather, demand this week has been "significantly more than normal".

    Despite calling for residents to shower rather than have a bath, the firm says it does still have "plenty" of water stored and reservoir levels are "healthy".

    Severn Trent's also blamed demand in the hot weather for thousands of homes losing their water supply in Telford, Stafford and Much Wenlock, saying the surge caused air locks in the network.

    The firm has said it also can't rule out the problem happening again this week.

    Britain's biggest pub group says some outlets are running out of certain beer brands as CO2 gas shortages continue to hit the food and drink sectors.

    Ei Group, based in Solihull, which has 4,500 properties, said it was working with publicans to source alternative beers where needed.

    Many pub landlords are unable to pick and choose which brands they can sell because of restrictions.

    Carbon dioxide has multiple uses in the food and drink industries, from putting the gas in beer and cider, stunning farm animals before slaughter, and as a preservative to increase the shelf-life of packaged products.

    This was the scene at Edgbaston this afternoon as fans watched coverage of the World Cup ahead of England's T20 match against Australia.

    Already facing an early exit from the World Cup, the Video Assistant Referee confirmed a late goal for South Korea in the 92nd minute, before Son Hueng Min made it 2-0 just minutes later.

    The RSCPA recently revealed it had rescued 82 chihauhaus from a home in Washwood Heath, Birmingham.

    The couple who owned the pooches started out with two dogs, but did not get them neutered -within four years, they ended up with 82.

    I've been finding out how you go about rehoming that many dogs.

    It was "extremely difficult," Inspector Herchy Boal told me.

    "The dogs were not well socialised, the owners weren't able to walk them, so they had a lot of behaviour problems.

    "It was a long process; we worked a lot with volunteers to get them friendly again.

    "You would need an army to deal with that many dogs."

    By the end of the process, all dogs have been rehomed and four were given back to the owner.

    Highways England is currently working on a £274m scheme to turn 20 miles of the motorway between J16 and J19 into a smart motorway.

    As part of that, they're installing a 20-tonne, 40m wide gantry across the width of the M6 and will shut the southbound side from 22:00 between J19 and J18 to bring a crane on to the road. , external

    Highways England says it will also briefly close the northbound side while putting the gantry in place.

    Staffordshire Fire says crews were called to Littleton Drive, Huntington, near Cannock on Tuesday morning.

    They say no-one was hurt but the blaze had got out-of-control and damaged the building.

    The second-largest crane in Europe is arriving in Telford today so a new footbridge can be swung into position.

    It's so big, it's being delivered on 16 lorries and means the southbound part of the A442 between Wombridge and the town centre is closed until next Tuesday., external

    That's to allow engineers to build and dismantle the crane.

    Then, on Friday, the northbound section will also be closed, to allow the section of bridge to be put in place.
