    The jury in the trial of two private school teachers accused of sexually abusing pupils has retired to consider its verdicts.

    James Husband, 68, and Gary Dobbie, 66, who both worked at the prestigious Christ's Hospital School in Horsham, West Sussex, deny sexually abusing eight pupils over the course of 13 years.

    Mr Dobbie, formerly of Hereford, who was teaching at Shrewsbury School, in Shropshire, at the time of his arrest, denies 12 counts.

    Mr Husband, of Wigginton in York, is accused of one count of rape alongside five indecent assault allegations.

    The parents of a 13-year-old boy whose body was pulled out of a lake in Stoke-on-Trent last night say they are "absolutely heartbroken".

    Ryan Evans was found yesterday after he'd gone missing while swimming in Westport Lake with friends.

    Train passengers are being warned services could be disrupted by a large fire in a timber yard in Staffordshire.

    Five fire crews have been called to the site this morning on Power Station Road, Rugeley.

    They say the yard and a lorry are both on fire, external and, given it's right next to the railway lines, local services could be affected by drifting smoke.

    Worcestershire are facing a huge task today to try to avoid defeat or even push for an unlikely victory in their County Championship match with Nottinghamshire.

    While in Division Two, Warwickshire appear best placed to force victory on an intriguing final day of their match against Durham.

    The visitors ended day three on 152-5 in their second innings to lead by 279 and a win for the Bears would take them back to the top of the table.

    Taxi drivers from Coventry are to travel to Wolverhampton today to "step up their protest against the council's continuing insistence to issue licences to Uber drivers" said a union.

    Alan Lewis, regional officer for Unite in Coventry said almost 10,000 licences have been issued by the neighbouring local authority, some of whom "regularly" work in Coventry.

    "There is no work for Uber drivers in Wolverhampton, in fact their own private hire drivers are complaining" he said, "so these other drivers are going all around the West Midlands looking for work".

    "There are a large number of Uber drivers that live in Coventry that operate with a Wolverhampton licence" he said, "I'm not even sure they'd know where Wolverhampton was."

    Councillor Alan Bolshaw from the City of Wolverhampton Council called the protest "irresponsible and potentially dangerous," and that the authority was "powerless to change" its policy, following changes to national legislation.

  9. Residents lose water after several pipes burstpublished at 10:39 British Summer Time 28 June 2018

    Part of Birmingham has lost its water supply after several mains burst.

    South Staffordshire Water (SSW) says a number have been affected in the Great Barr area including on Chapel Lane, Birmingham Road and Beechwood Road., external

    It means residents may have lost pressure or have no water at all - the firm says engineers are working to fix the problem.

    SSW add that, when people get their supply back, it could be yellow or brown and cold water taps need running for 20 minutes to clear this issue.

    A major route through Telford continues to be closed for works on a new footbridge.

    One of the biggest cranes in Europe is being brought in on 16 lorries to lift a section of the bridge into place at Telford Central station.

    Work to replace the bridge that connects the station to the town centre will see the A442 between the Wombridge Interchange to Hollinswood roundabout close for six days.

    JCB says it's investing £50m in a new plant in Staffordshire which will create more than 200 jobs by 2022.

    The Rocester-based firm says the new facility will build cabs to go on its machines and be built next to the A50 in Uttoxeter.

    JCB says the plant will be able to produce 100,000 cabs a year, have a computer-controlled production line and robotic welding.
