    Five people were injured in a two-car crash near Bridgnorth last night, two of them seriously.

    A man in his 30s, who was driving one of the cars, was trapped for half an hour and he and a front seat passenger in his 40s were take to hospital trauma units.

    The collision happened on the A545 close to Swancote and two others were taken to hospital with less serious injuries.

    The fifth person was discharged at the scene.

    Shrewsbury Town manager John Askey says the club could have done no more to keep captain Abu Ogogo - and he has to accept it can't compete with "the bigger teams".

    After finishing third in League One last season, the club has also seen Askey's predecessor Paul Hurst leave to join Ipswich Town, and players Junior Brown and Craig MacGillivray turn down contract offers to sign elsewhere.

    A fish and chip shop in Leominster has been closed down after evidence of rats was found at the premises, Herefordshire Council says.

    Environmental Health inspectors visited The Square in Corn Square on 21 June and shut it on the spot, saying there was an "imminent risk to health".

    The local authority said it was subsequently granted a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order at Hereford Magistrates’ Court yesterday, requiring the business to remain closed until council officers were satisfied the business was hygienic.

    The police officer leading the search for a missing 13-year-old boy in Westport Lake, Stoke-on-Trent, says it will continue "until we bring out all three people from the lake".

    Two children have been safely accounted for, but one remains missing.

    The child missing at Westport Lake in Stoke-on-Trent is a 13-year-old boy, Staffordshire Police says.

    The force - which is in contact with the boy's family - says it is unable to say for how long the search will continue.

    A specialist underwater team is assisting with the operation following reports on Monday of three children in distress.

    A competition to name Coventry bin lorries has attracted some interesting suggestions - among them, Bins of Leon, Dustbin Timberlake and Bin Diesel.

    The three new vehicles up for naming include two mini-lorries designed to fit through smaller places, the city council says.

    The competition has reached the "knock-out stage", the authority says, with the public able to vote until tomorrow.

    Fire crews will remain at the site of a factory fire in Brierley Hill this morning, making sure there are no hot-spots.

    The property on Fens Pool Avenue was completely destroyed by the blaze, the fire service said. Surrounding buildings have been protected, Dudley crews report.

    Nottinghamshire Police's underwater unit is among the teams taking part in a resumed search for a missing child at a lake.

    Police, fire and ambulance crews are at Westport Lake in Longport, Stoke-on-Trent, as part of the emergency response.

    A police cordon remains in place at the site, with police officers remaining there overnight.

    The search for a child who went missing at a lake in Stoke-on-Trent yesterday afternoon has resumed.

    Emergency services were called to Westport Lake, Longport, at about 16:50 following reports of three youngsters seen "in distress".

    The search was called off at about 23:00 last night because of fading light, but emergency crews remained at the scene.

    Two children are reported safe.

    Crews were called to Windmill Road in the Longford area of the city shortly after 19:30 to deal with a blaze in conditions described as "arduous".

    West Midlands Fire Service tweeted, external that the fire had been extinguished, and that "DIY electrics is never wise and puts lives at serious risk".

    More than 40 firefighters spent the night battling the blaze at a factory in Fens Pool Avenue, Brierley Hill.

    The property, including an office building, has been completely destroyed, the fire service says.

    There are no reports of any injuries.
