    A 16-year-old boy charged with the murder of a man in Telford has appeared at Stafford Crown Court today.

    Derek Whyteside, 42, from Dawley, Telford, died in hospital after being found unconscious in Withywood Drive, Malinslee, on 18 June.

    The teenager appeared at the crown court for the first time and is due back at the court in August.

  5. HS2 protester locks gates on ministerpublished at 11:36 British Summer Time 25 June 2018

    A protester padlocked a gate to a farm in Warwickshire, trapping a minister inside as she launched a new HS2 initiative.

    Dignitaries and press were also stuck at Dalehouse Farm in Kenilworth for almost an hour this morning.

    Transport minister Nus Ghani was promoting a plan by the HS2 high-speed rail line to create a "green corridor" of trees and other plants along phase one of its route from London to Birmingham, via Warwickshire.

    Stop HS2 campaigner Joe Rukin padlocked the gate, demanding the minister read a list of complaints relating to the building of the proposed line.

    It is not clear whether Ms Ghani was delayed.

    A mechanic from Hereford has claimed a new world record for running the fastest ever half marathon while wearing a blindfold.

    Darren Gibbons says he beat the two-hour target by two minutes and 20 seconds , externalalthough Guinness World Records has yet to confirm it as an official record.

    He also completed the run, in aid of charity, despite his friend and guide runner Christian Mason having to give up early with an illness.

    Four people have been cut free from two cars, external after they were involved in a crash.

    Firefighters from Crewe and Nantwich say they were called on Saturday morning to the A51 London Road, Doddington.

    They say one person was taken to hospital after all four were released but they don't believe any of them suffered serious injuries.

    Derbyshire Police said Jasmine Chahal has not been seen for six days and has links to Birmingham.

    A cricket coach in Worcester, who is facing deportation to Sri Lanka, says he hopes the Home Office will overturn its decision after speaking to his local MP.

    University of Worcester graduate Hemaka Patharinage, who coaches children and disabled people, needs to earn £30,000 a year to qualify for a visa.

    He's been told by the Home Office he must leave the country by 11 July as he doesn't earn enough money and has had at least one appeal rejected.

    Worcester MP Robin Walker says he is going to contact the Home Office on Mr Patharinage's behalf today and a petition supporting him has been signed by more than 3,000 people., external

    A Dudley-based brewery says part of the firm came to a standstill on Friday because of the carbon dioxide shortage crisis.

    Mark Hammond, operations director of Holden's Brewery, told the BBC that the bottling part of his company had to shut down.

    He says CO2 is "absolutely vital" to what they do, equivalent to diesel in the haulage industry and he doesn't know when the crisis will end.

    A Birmingham flight bound for Ibiza had to be diverted to Toulouse after a stag party on board carried out a "pattern of appalling aggressive behaviour", said the airline.

    Jet2 said one member of the group was refused boarding for being "drunk and aggressive" but despite this, a number of individuals from the same party continued the "disgraceful" behaviour.

    "After repeat warnings, the crew took the decision to divert the aircraft in the interests of everyone’s comfort and safety," it said.

    "The cumulative effect of consuming alcohol in the airport, as well as illicitly once onboard the aircraft, contributed to this behaviour" said the company, which is calling for the sale of alcohol at airports to be better controlled.

    Police met the aircraft and offloaded the group after the incident on Friday.
