    Princess Anne has made an appearance at Worcester Racecourse, as guest of honour for celebrations to mark its 300th anniversary, 31 years after she rode a winner there herself.

    The day has also featured the return of the Worcester Grand Annual race after an 85-year absence.

    A litter of police dog puppies have been given the names of England's World Cup stars.

    The week-old springer spaniels unveiled by West Midlands Police are; Kane, Vardy, Ashley, Alli, Jordan, Rose, Dier and Delph.

    The force used to give its litters names starting with the same letter and says this is the first time it has gone with a theme instead.

    Land has been cleared from the Chervil Rise area of Heath Town to make way for a new housing development.

    The city council says it has now appointed architects for the project to build 300 new homes for sale and rent, which will include new council homes.

    The authority says it's now looking for a contractor to start the first phase of 30 new council homes on land off Hobgate Road, Tithe Croft and Tremont Street.

    The collision happened on Victoria Road, Fenton, police say, near Fenton Baptist Church.

    They say the driver didn't stop at the scene and the injured 19-year-old needed hospital treatment.

    Firefighters are still tackling fires on moorland outside Leek and at woodland near Alton, days after first being called to the moorlands.

    Staffordshire Police adds that, while it doesn't have evidence to show the fires were deliberately started, "this can’t be ruled out".

    Staffordshire Fire Service says one firefighter was injured while working on the Alton fire, was checked over in hospital and is now recovering at home.

    A Kings Heath swimming pool which was forced to close after a break-in has now re-opened after a clean-up.

    The Cocks Moors Woods Leisure centre had to shut because there was broken glass scattered on the floor.

    The leisure centre used the opportunity to clean the grouting and tiles while the pool was drained.

  9. Donation box set up for hungry firefighterspublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 4 July 2018

    A donation box has been set up in Leek, so people can leave food and drink for firefighters who have been dealing with wildfires in the Staffordshire Moorlands.

    Earlier this week the fire service called on people not to approach firefighters while they were battling grass fires in potentially dangerous conditions.

    The Red Cross has now installed a donation box at Leek fire station.

    The fire service says it's extremely grateful for the show of support from members of the public and says if it gets more donations than needed they'll go to other good causes.

    Nick Knowles, from the BBC's DIY SOS show, has praised workmen in Bromsgrove who have given up their time again to help a good cause.

    This time they're converting the home of 34-year-old Johanna Lane to allow her sister Karis, who has cerebral palsy, to move in.

    The presenter said it was hard to choose which projects to take on, but it was clear this one would allow a family to stay together.

    A Red Arrows Hawk jet has been installed next to the Lady Godiva statue in Coventry city centre.

    It's there as part of celebrations to mark 100 years of the RAF.

    A three-day event is being held in Broadgate, with demonstrations, a cathedral service and a civic reception.

    There will also be displays of other aircraft at Coventry airport.

  13. X-ray machine to be installed after months of delayspublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 4 July 2018

    An x-ray machine that sat in its box for months at Ludlow Community Hospital, is finally going to be installed.

    The equipment was bought at the start of the year with the help of £158,000 from the hospital's league of friends, but staff had to wait for permission to unpack it from the owners of the building, NHS Property Services.

    The Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust said now work to make the necessary alterations to the building will start once contractors are appointed.

    AFC Telford United say they've reluctantly agreed to sell winger Elliott Newby to Chorley FC for an undisclosed fee.

    The club said he "has proven to be a popular figure at the football club so it’s hugely disappointing that we announce he will be leaving us".

    And it said despite going "above and beyond" to convince him to stay, he decided to leave to be closer to home.

    The body of a man has been found at a property in Stoke-on-Trent - detectives and forensics teams are currently at the scene.

    Police say they were called to Tierney Street in Northwood just before 13:30 this afternoon, following the discovery.

    The man's death is being treated as unexplained, and anyone with information is being asked to contact officers.

  16. Operation to save hundreds of fish from dried up riverpublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 4 July 2018

    The Environment Agency says it has rescued more than 500 salmon and trout from the upper Teme.

    Water levels have fallen in the hot weather and some sections are now completely dry.

    It said other stretches of the river were also "drying out fast" so staff would go out again tomorrow.

    Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves says he's refreshed and ready to take on the Premier League after signing a new and improved contract.

    The 21-year-old joined Wolves from Porto last summer for what was a Championship record fee of about £16m and the new deal runs until 2023.

    With that sorted, Neves told Wolves TV he's now turning his attention to getting ready for his season in England's top flight.

    The number of rough sleepers camping by the river in Worcester has almost doubled over the past couple of weeks.

    There are now nine tents on grass opposite the cathedral, but talks are taking place with a number of agencies, to find them somewhere else to settle.
