    A couple of dinosaur enthusiasts visiting the Dippy the Diplodocus agreed to get wed.

    "He went down on one knee at the exhibition. There were a group of school children visiting who were excited about it," a Birmingham Museum spokesman said.

    Amy, who accepted boyfriend Niall's proposal, took home a cuddly Dippy toy as a souvenir of her exceptional day.

    The Natural History Museum's famous resident is on a UK-wide tour and is in Birmingham until September.

    A man has appeared in court charged with murder.

    Ryan Preston, 27, of Hermitage Road, Coventry, is accused of the murder of 27-year-old Daniel Kennell, found stabbed on Sunday in St Austell Road.

    At the city Magistrates' Court today he was remanded in custody, and is next due at Warwick Crown Court on 12 July.

    Port Vale are hoping their training camp in Ireland will allow the players to get to know each other, after 11 signings this summer.

    Striker Scott Quigley (pictured below) was the latest arrival, joining on loan from Blackpool and he said trips like this are "big" for most football clubs.

    Port Vale also released 10 players over the summer and kick off their new season at home to Cambridge in just under a month's time.

    A bystander who tried to stop a pub fight has died, police said.

    The 31-year-old was found with severe head injuries after reports of a fight outside The Malthouse pub on New Road,Willenhall, Walsall, just after midnight on Monday.

    He died in hospital on Monday afternoon.

    Det Insp Justin Spanner said: "We understand there was a fight that ended with a bystander being attacked - and shockingly he passed away at hospital a matter of hours later alongside family members".

    Officers are asking for any witnesses to come forward.

    The Alan Nuttall Partnership currently employs more than 500 people at premises in Dudley and Hinckley.

    Blaming the growth of online retail, and confidence at a "worrying level" as the country heads towards Brexit, the managing director said it needed to be done so the company could live to fight another day.

    The firm also made a number of redundancies earlier in the year.

    Shropshire's head of libraries says she is committed to reversing falling visitors numbers.

    New figures show around 110,000 fewer people visited the county’s libraries in 2017/18 compared with the previous year, a drop of almost 11%.

    Poundworld, the struggling discount retailer, will close 25 stores, including the Birmingham Fort Retail Park shop, resulting in 242 job losses, administrators said.

    The stores named for closure will operate until 15 July, according to a memo sent to Poundworld staff.

    "The administrators have been preparing contingency plans in the event that we are not able to deliver a sale of the business as a whole," the memo said.

    Other stores in the area set to shut, are Sutton Coldfield and Crewe, the BBC understands.

    A Warwickshire fishery said it's lost about 150 fish after Koi herpesvirus (KHV) was found at the site, external, along with three other places in the country.

    One of the owners of Parkers Fishery, in Wolvey, Sam Mulholland said they had taken the decision to close the lake for two weeks after the discovery in May by the government's Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas).

    All fish affected have been incinerated, she said.

    Dip nets are now being used at the site, as a disease control measure, and the fishery will be working closely with Cefas for the next year, which will be carrying out regular inspections.

    A Malvern man has pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of an 11-year-old boy in the town.

    Alexander James Johnson, who is 47 and from West Malvern Road, was arrested after the boy was found injured on 2 May.

    He appeared before Worcester Crown Court this morning and a trial is due to start on 15 October.

    Wolves have announced a new one-year contract extension for manager Nuno Espirito Santo, and his coaching team, meaning they'll stay at the club until 2021.
