    The interim headteacher of a school placed into special measures has written to parents saying the school "faces a significant challenge".

    Lee Gray, of North Bromsgrove High School in Worcestershire, acknowledged the school needed to make rapid improvements to reverse Ofsteds judgements.

    Inspectors said standards have been too low, pupils behaviour is not good enough and leadership has not been cohesive.

    Mr Gray has invited all parents and carers to a meeting with himself and the governors where he will discuss the next steps to be taken.

    A school which has seen a number of teachers leave recently, has been placed in special measures, external.

    A recent Ofsted inspection rated North Bromsgrove High School inadequate saying standards have been too low over time, pupils behaviour is not good enough and leadership is not cohesive.

    The school's leaders and governors lack the capacity to bring about the necessary improvements, inspectors added.

    Headteacher Angelina Robin-Jones left the school last month, citing "personal reasons".

    In a letter to parents the school's interim headteacher, Lee Gray, said the school now faces a "significant challenge".

    National Express buses are being diverted away from Broad Street in Birmingham tomorrow night during England's semi-final clash with Croatia.

    The public transport provider has asked people not to climb on their buses as a fall would be "dangerous" and "very serious".

    Incidents across the country during the quarter final match on Saturday, saw an ambulance jumped on in London and a taxi being vandalised in Nottingham.

    Buses will stop running down Broad Street from 20:00.

    "Complicated" work to repair a burst pipe will take longer than hoped but the water supply has been turned back on.

    Severn Trent engineers worked through the night at Lichfield Road in Aston, Birmingham, after it burst on Sunday night.

    The company said people in the area may experience low water pressure whilst the system is recharged with water.

    Meanwhile, work is ongoing to repair burst pipes in Wheeler Street, Newtown, and Cornwall Road in the city centre after they also burst.

    More women are being encouraged to think about becoming firefighters as Shropshire Fire service tackles a shortage of recruits.

    Birmingham is the safest major city in the UK with less crime than Liverpool and Manchester - according to a new report.

    The Birmingham Community Safety Partnership's figures show the total recorded crime in the city compared to its population was "relatively low".

    The partnership includes the city council and West Midlands Police.

    The city was the best-performing out of the "core cities" which do not include London, followed by Sheffield then Leeds, Liverpool, Bristol, Nottingham and Newcastle.

    West Mercia Police says it happened at around 15:15 on Saturday on the B4364 in Faintree near Bridgnorth, Shropshire.

    A silver Vauxhall Corsa and a black Toyota Hilux collided and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Two men have been arrested after armed police were sent to reports of a man with a gun.

    Staffordshire Police says they were called to Wellington Street, Hanley in Stoke-on-Trent at 14:15 after reports of someone "causing a disturbance".

    They searched the area and found the man but didn't discover any weapons.

    A 24-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of affray and a 23-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug.
