    He resigned last week, 15 months after he was suspended, and the BBC has been told a report has been put together into a series of allegations against him.

    The council has never revealed what the allegations are and now says it's a "confidential staffing matter" and can't legally be published.

    New Crewe Alexandra striker Alex Nicolls says he wants to repay David Artell for the kindness he showed him when he suffered a serious injury six years ago.

    Nicolls broke his leg while the pair were both playing for Northampton Town and Artell, who now manages Crewe, made numerous trips to the hospital to visit him.

    Nicolls said he probably hadn't thanked Artell properly, but scoring goals to help his new club would be a fitting way to do that.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service says a boy who was taken to hospital with head injuries could have had a "different outcome" if he'd been wearing a cycle helmet.

    He was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital after crashing on a slope in Perry Wood nature reserve in Worcestershire.

    The ambulance service said: "While it is clearly a matter for the individual or their parent/guardian, our view is that a cycle helmet can help prevent injury."

    Six people have been arrested in connection with a series of distraction burglaries, after searches were carried out at homes in the West Midlands.

    Warrants were executed at addresses in Walsall and Wolverhampton in the early hours of this morning, said Staffordshire Police.

    The three man and three women, aged between 20 and 39, were all arrested on suspicion of burglary.

    The West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner has questioned the need for a review which saw the force’s ability to protect vulnerable people rated poorly.

    The Force Management Statement gives ratings to several areas of the West Midlands Police force, including investigations and wellbeing.

    Speaking at today’s strategic policing and crime board, PCC David Jamieson said that the money spent producing the report could have been better spent elsewhere.

    Police have launched an attempted murder investigation after shots were fired in the Warley area of Oldbury.

    Officers were called to an address in Clay Lane just after 20:00 on Sunday to reports of gunshots being fired towards a man from a silver car, West Midlands Police said.

    Det Sgt Chris Jones said the vehicle, reportedly driven by a man wearing a black scarf around his face, was then seen speeding off towards the junction of Langley High Street and Langley Green Road.

    The're asking for anyone with information to come forward.

    Millions of people, including those in south Cheshire and Newcastle-under-Lyme, will be affected by the first hosepipe ban of the summer in England.

    United Utilities said a temporary ban, affecting seven million people in the North West of England from 5 August, would "safeguard essential supplies".

    It said reservoir levels were already low and that hot weather was forecast for the rest of July.

    Other water companies across England said they had adequate supplies and had no plans to impose similar bans.

    Reports of a rape at Oakengates station at the weekend are being investigated by West Mercia Police.

    The force said it was called there at 05:42 on Saturday and it is checking CCTV footage and speaking to potential witnesses.

    Teenagers in England are being given lessons in school to reduce the risk of knife violence in the summer holidays.

    Recent stab deaths in the West Midlands include Ozell Pemberton, 16, in Sutton Coldfield and 15-year-old Keelan Wilson, found dead in Wolverhampton.

    Crime Minister Victoria Atkins said young people need to be kept safe from the "rise in serious violence".

    The lessons, for 11 to 16-year-olds, warn young people not to believe everything they see on social media, and that it is false to believe most other youngsters have knives or that carrying a knife is a form of self-defence.

    Anglers in Shrewsbury are being asked to behave responsibly during the hot summer weather, with oxygen and water levels in the River Severn low.

    Shrewsbury Town Council said it had taken advice from the Environment Agency and was asking anglers not to fish for salmon, trout or grayling and to only fish in the early evening before dusk.

    It has also asked anglers to give fish plenty of time to recover when returning them to the river and not to use keep nets.

    It said it was giving the advice "to avoid any suspension of fishing".
