    A Birmingham artist who's engraved £5 notes with the image of England striker Harry Kane said he put one into circulation in Merthyr Tydfil because his father was born nearby.

    Micro-engraver Graham Short, who used the note at a shop in Cefn Coed last Wednesday, said: "I wanted someone to find it who perhaps needed the money, and they can perhaps sell it for whatever - holidays or Christmas."

    He made six of the notes after Kane won the Golden Boot for scoring the most goals during the 2018 World Cup.

    The artist previously etched Jane Austen on to new £5 notes when they were first circulated - and those have been valued at £50,000.

    Mr Short's other Harry Kane notes were spent in the Meriden area of Solihull and Edinburgh. Another is set to be spent in Northern Ireland.

    Mr Short gifted the other two notes to the FA and to Kane himself.

    Birmingham Museums Trust has proposed to convert the former Pool Way Centre in Yardley into a cultural site that would house historic collections and host community events - opening in 2021.

    The plot has been approved for regeneration by Birmingham City Council.

    Under plans, the initial phase would create a new storage facility for collections currently held at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, in readiness for the redevelopment of the city’s flagship museum.

    Kayden Walker died from "catastrophic" brain injuries in 2016 at the hands of Ricky Walker, Birmingham Crown Court heard.

    Walker, 27, from Bilston, West Midlands, was convicted of manslaughter but cleared of murder and child cruelty.

    Yesterday, trial judge Mr Justice Morris said: "You have been convicted of manslaughter and you will be facing a custodial sentence".

    The boy's mother, Laura Davies, 25, was found guilty of allowing her son's death. She is set to be sentenced at a later date.

    Samantha Eastwood was last seen leaving Royal Stoke University Hospital on Friday and did not return for her night shift later that day.

    She had been planning a wedding for June but was "recently single", police said.

    A man arrested on suspicion of kidnap has been released under investigation while inquiries continue, police say.

    Daniel Baird, 26, was injured near The Forge Tavern in Digbeth last July. He died in hospital shortly after.

    The accused - Carlton Donaldson, 23, of no fixed address - is set to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court where in addition to murder he will face further charges including violent disorder.
