Police involved in the case of Ricky Walker, from Bilston who has been convicted of the manslaughter of his six-month-old son said it has been a "very emotional" case.
Det Insp Paul Joyce, from West Midlands Police said: "Kayden’s life was tragically cut short by the violence of his father - the same father who should have been nurturing him caring for him through his early months.
"This has been a very emotional case for everyone involved in the investigation.
"We might never know exactly what happened to little Kayden, and today's verdict cannot make up for the loss of such a young life."

A man and a woman have been "incredibly lucky", paramedics say, after walking away from a helicopter crash without being seriously hurt., external
The ambulance service says it happened just before 14:00 near Naunton Road, Naunton Beauchamp, near Worcester.
They say the pair had got out by the time they arrived and the woman was taken to hospital for treatment for back and abdominal pain.

Shropshire Council's leader has rejected Labour councillors' call for an independent inquiry into an £80,000 grant given to a football club.
The council has admitted it didn't try hard enough to get the money back after The New Saints FC received the cash six years ago.
The club's chairman Mike Harris maintains the funds were not to be repaid but emails seen by BBC Shropshire show repayments were expected.
Today, the Labour group on the council said growing speculation online and in the media meant an independent inquiry was needed.
However Conservative leader Peter Nutting says the issue has more to do with "cock up" than "conspiracy".
Birmingham gymnast Taeja James, 15, is set to replace Becky Downie as a representative for Team GB at the European Championships in Glasgow.
Downie has withdrawn through a further injury set-back.
James impressed during this year's Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

A man charged with killing a woman who died when a suspected stolen car being pursued by police crashed, has been remanded in custody.
Sarah Giles, 20, was a passenger in a VW Golf that was in collision with an Audi A3 being chased by officers in Kingstanding on Sunday.
Dwaine Haughton died in hospital after he was shot in Wolverhampton.

A project in Shropshire to help save a rare bird has released its first batch of hand-reared chicks into the wild. , external
The Curlew Country Project works on the ground in the Shropshire Hills and Welsh Marches.
The curlew, with its long down-curved bill, is Europe's largest wading bird and it typically nests in open areas of heath and bog at ground level.
Nationally, curlews are already included in the most at risk red category of the latest British Birds of Conservation Concern 4 list, external.
Staff at the project say 21 chicks have now been reared and the first batch of chicks has flown freely outside their enclosure.
