    Police are appealing for information after shots were fired at a man in Sheldon in Birmingham.

    Officers believe that a shotgun was used to fire at the driver of a black Land Rover Freelander by two men on a motorbike on Friday.

    It happened on Coventry Road near the junction with Coalway Avenue at 22:15.

    There are no reports of injuries.

    An inquiry into delays to the opening of Kenilworth station has opened, Warwickshire County Council has said.

    Residents who campaigned for 30 years for the station had been promised it would open in 2016, but the start date kept getting put back with it eventually opening in April 2018.

    The review, which is being independently chaired by John Bridgeman CBE, will bring together all partners involved in the project in order to identify "at which stages of the project delays occurred and what caused them", the authority said.

  6. Man charged by police after 'dog attack'published at 16:28 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

    A man has been charged by police after it's alleged two members of the public were bitten by a dog in Newcastle-under-Lyme last night.

    The 32-year-old, of no fixed address, was arrested yesterday afternoon and has today been charged by police, external with being in charge of a dangerous dog, resisting arrest and using threatening and abusive language.

    Armed officers searched the area last night to find the loose Rottweiler, which was caught and taken to a nearby kennels.

    None of the injuries are thought to be serious, say police.

    Police in Coventry have applied for a licence review of a Coventry club, following the fatal stabbing of 21-year-old Fidel Glasgow.

    The club has been served with a 24-hour closure notice following the death of the grandson of The Specials singer Neville Staple.

    A Coventry City Council spokesperson said: "Public notices have gone up today to inform people that a review of the licence at Club M has been called.

    "There will be an interim steps hearing tomorrow with a full hearing review within 28 days. The premises licence holder is aware of the application to review the licence.”

    Seven people have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm after an "extremely violent" and "unprovoked" attack on a man by a group of teenagers at Gravelly Hill station in Birmingham, police say.

    As well as being punched and kicked multiple times, it's believed he was shocked with an electric stun weapon, said British Transport Police. , external

    Seven people aged 16 to 19, have been released on police bail after being questioned in connection with the attack, which happened shortly after 19:00 on 30 August.

    The victim was taken to hospital and treated for injuries including a fractured eye socket and broken nose.

    A former Coventry firefighter, who helped rescue 12 boys from a cave in Thailand, has been honoured by city councillors today.

    Diver Rick Stanton made global headlines when he helped discover the boys, after risking his life swimming through narrow underwater passages in the Tham Luang Nang Non cave.

    At a council meeting he thanked the people of Coventry for their support after receiving a Good Citizen Award.

    Six people were treated by ambulance staff after a crash in Walsall today involving a number of vehicles.

    A 20-year-old man and 16-year-old girl were taken to hospital after one of the cars hit a lamppost and a wall at the junction of Wednesdbury Road and Corporation Street West.

    A woman in her 40s had to be cut from another car after being trapped for around an hour, before being taken to hospital suffering multiple injuries.

  14. Hundreds of fires 'started deliberately' over the summerpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

    Firefighters in Staffordshire say they had to deal with nearly 1,500 grass and rubbish fires over the summer, and many were started deliberately.

    During June, July and August they were called to 1,475 separate incidents - with 75% believed to have been started on purpose.

    Last year over the same period just 495 fires were recorded, according to Staffordshire Fire.

    Firefighters say they've seen an "unprecedented spike in demand" but are now starting to see a drop in reports of fires.

  15. 5G tech trial to 'transform travel'published at 13:36 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

    Wolverhampton, Birmingham and Coventry will be the first areas to see a large-scale test of 5G technology, which is quick enough to download an HD movie in a matter of seconds.

    Technology projects using 5G are expected to begin early next year, with the focus in the West Midlands on health, construction and automotive sectors.

    The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) will also work with car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover to develop driverless cars and autonomous vehicles, which it said will "transform the way we travel".

    It is hoped 5G technology will improve traffic flow and reduce accidents for public transport.
