    An investigation has been launched into contact police had with a 17-year-old boy, who went into cardiac arrest when he was Tasered by officers.

    He was part of a group involved in a disturbance in Prior Deram Walk, Canley, Coventry, just after 21:30 on Saturday, West Midlands Police said.

    In a statement the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said: "We are investigating police contact with a 17-year-old boy who was taken to hospital following an incident in Prior Deram Walk, Coventry on 1 September. During the incident involving several teenagers a Taser was discharged."

    The teenager remains in hospital in a stable condition, it said.

  2. Dogs go barking mad for new poo-friendly trailspublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 4 September 2018

    Dog walkers in Worcester can now take advantage of three new walking trails, designed to tackle the issue of people not clearing up after their pets.

    The three routes which are 2, 4 or 6 kilometres all start at Perdiswell Leisure Centre.

    Additional signage and more bins will also be provided to encourage more people to clean up after their dogs.

    It will replace the one that will be affected by the high-speed rail line, HS2.

    The current site at Attleboro Lane will close and new facilities constructed on land off Plank Lane.

    The permission was given under powers given to the Secretary of State through the High Speed Rail Act.

    Giving large discounts to new market traders in Hanley is not fair, according to some stallholders.

    Some say they're being treated unfairly by Stoke-on-Trent City Council because it's offering various discounts - including a 75% rent reduction for under 25s.

    Hand-painted ducks which went on display in Ironbridge and Southwater as part of Telford's 50th anniversary celebrations have raised more than £30,000 at auction.

    The money raised by the sale of the sculptures will go to the Severn Hospice and the Jayne Sergeant Foundation cancer charity.

    Last night more than 300 people turned up to the auction at the Charlton School in Wellington.

    Officers were called to reports of a man being shot just after 22:00 last night and he was picked up in Druids Heath.

    The 29-year-old, who was shot in the abdomen, remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital following surgery.

    The three men, aged 18, 20 and 22, remain in police custody and will be questioned in due course, said West Midlands Police.

    A heron has had to be put to sleep after being shot by an air rifle before it was hit by two cars, the RSPCA said.

    The charity was called after a motorist saw the bird get struck twice by vehicles, which failed to stop, on College Road, Birmingham, last week.

    The air rifle pellet was discovered during an examination by a vet.

    The heron's internal injuries were "so severe" it had to be put to sleep, said the RSPCA, who are appealing for anyone with information about who shot the bird to come forward.

    Armed officers were called to deal with a dog after two people were bitten by an animal off its lead in Staffordshire, police said.

    The attacks happened in the Hempstalls Lane area of Newcastle-under-Lyme yesterday evening.

    A man was arrested on suspicion of public order offences after officers were called to reports of a dog being used to threaten people. He remains in custody.

    The dog, a Rottweiler-type, was caught and taken to kennels, said Staffordshire Police.

    Rangers in the Staffordshire Moorlands are warning areas devastated by a large fire could still be unstable.

    Roads and paths around Upper Hulme near Leek are now open, almost a month on, although Staffordshire Wildlife Trust is urging people not to climb or walk on burnt areas because of loose debris.

    A man charged in connection with the death of the 21-year-old grandson of The Specials singer Neville Staple is due in court today.

    Fidel Glasgow, the son of Mr Staple's daughter Melanie, died in a stabbing in Coventry on Saturday.

    West Midlands Police charged Atikou Diallo, 23, of no fixed abode with violent disorder, grievous bodily harm and possession of cocaine.

    He is due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court later.

    The West Midlands has been selected as the UK’s first multi-city 5G test bed.

    The multimillion-pound trial of new high speed mobile technology will pave the way for the future roll-out across the UK.

    5G promises much faster and more reliable data transmission, clearing the way for things like live streaming of CCTV footage from buses and patient data from ambulances en route to hospitals.

    Following its selection, the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) will now work with the 5G Testbeds and Trials Team at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) on preparing the formal business case for approval, said the government.
