A new dedicated child protection team has been launched by Staffordshire Police today., external
The force says it brings together detectives and officers from neighbourhood teams, and will also have dedicated social workers alongside them.
They will be based in both Hanley and Stafford and will deal with all serious offences against people under 18, including all rape and serious sexual offences.
Staffordshire Police says it hopes the changes will lead to closer and more effective relationships with other organisations who deal with child protection.
Commuters are warned to expect delays and congestion as vehicles and buses are diverted.

Police have released two images of men they would like to speak, external to after a man was assaulted in a Warwickshire nightclub.
Last Monday a man in his 30s was on the dancefloor of Clink nightclub in Leamington with some friends "when an altercation took place with another man", police said.
Officers believe the victim was attacked with glass, causing serious wounds to his chin and neck.
Warwickshire Police say the men "may have information which could assist with the investigation".

A woman who has a rare condition which took 78 years to diagnose says she wants to see more research carried out into the condition.
Valerie Bradley, 79, from Stourport-on-Severn, has Charcot Marie Tooth Disease, a degenerative condition which means her muscles get tired quickly.
There’s no cure for the illness and Valerie says she’s now reliant on physiotherapy to manage her symptoms.

A man who was caught with heroin hidden in his underwear has been jailed.
Lee Marr appeared at Chester Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.
The 29-year-old, of no fixed address, also pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis and was sentenced to over five years in prison.
Cheshire Police said he was arrested after officers from Crewe stopped a taxi in Willaston and found he had 90 wraps of heroin concealed in his pants.

Port Vale will be without Cristian Montano for Saturday's game at Forest Green Rovers.
The left-back injured his knee at the weekend during the Vale's 2-1 home defeat against Newport County.

Police are continuing to investigate an attack on two train passengers last week.
A video posted on social media shows a woman leading the beating of a female passenger and man after accusing them of throwing food at her.
Police believe the footage was taken on a Chiltern Railways service travelling between London and Birmingham on Monday night.
So far no arrests have been made.
