    Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service say the fire at Smart Fleet Solutions in Cold Meece appears to have been started accidentally.

    The son of a notorious drug lord says he hopes to help recovering addicts in the Midlands with the proceeds of a screenplay he's writing.

    Phillip Witcomb was born in Colombia but was adopted by an English couple who sent him to Lucton school in Herefordshire.

    He later discovered that his real father was the billionaire cocaine baron Pablo Escobar.

    At the height of his career, Escobar's cartel supplied an estimated 80% of the cocaine smuggled into the United States.

    Now there are plans to turn Phillip's story into a film.

    It said it hopes to release traffic soon and advised drivers to take care on approach.

    A pedestrian has suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car last night.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called to the junction of Genners Lane and Long Nuke Road, Northfield at about 23:50 to reports of a collision.

    A spokeswoman said the man, believed to be in his 50s, received "advanced trauma care" and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for further emergency care.

    The factory fire we told you about earlier, is not being treated as suspicious, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue says.

    The plant, in the Cold Meece area of Stone, has been badly damaged.

    The fire was "fully developed" and coming through the roof when crews arrived, just before 03:30.

    No injuries have been reported.

    A former Sandwell Council boss has told BBC WM how she was subjected to a sustained, painful and damaging campaign of bullying.

    Melanie Dudley, who used to be the assistant chief executive of the authority, complained about disrespectful messages which were sent by a councillor to a blogger and ended up being published online.

    An investigation agreed that the messages, sent by Richard Marshall, did amount to bullying, but no action can be taken against him as he stepped down at elections in May.

    Ms Dudley says she wants the council's powers to sanction people for bad behaviour to be stepped up.

    Sandwell Council says it does not accept bullying in any form and it is also concerned there are insufficient powers to deal with elected members who abuse their position.

    A teenager has been charged with the murder of an 87-year-old man who died after a violent break-in at his home.

    Arthur "Bob" Gumbley died in hospital three weeks after he was attacked during a burglary in Endwood Drive, Sutton Coldfield, on 21 November 2017.

    Police said Jason Wilsher, 19, of Barlestone Road, Bagworth, has been charged with Mr Gumbley's murder.

    Mr Wilsher is due to appear at Newcastle-under-Lyme Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

    The RSPCA has issued a warning in Shropshire after two cats died of suspected antifreeze poisoning.

    The two pets, Frank and Betty, both had to be put to sleep after they became seriously ill within days of each other at the start of this month.

    Vets in Shrewsbury say they believe both animals died after ingesting antifreeze and there have since been other cases reported.

    A supporter threw a cabbage at under-pressure Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce before his side's dramatic draw with Preston, in which Glenn Whelan missed a 97th-minute penalty, the gamed ending 3-3.

    Bruce said victory would not have made up for the abuse he was subjected to by sections of the crowd and it was "for others to decide what happens now".

    Whelan was denied from the spot after fellow substitute Yannick Bolasie had scored a late equaliser for Villa, who had earlier blown a 2-0 lead against the Championship's bottom club.

    More than 25 firefighters are tackling a fire at a factory near Stone.

    Staffordshire Fire and Rescue was called to Cold Meece just before 03:30 this morning and the number of crews increased as the fire developed.

    Firefighters from Stone, Stafford, Longton, Newcastle and Eccleshall are involved in the operation.

    The NHS trust that runs Shropshire's two hospitals will be prosecuted over the way it managed asbestos on its property.

    The Health and Safety Executive's been investigating complaints made by a whistle-blower against the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.

    The watchdog has now confirmed it will begin legal proceedings following allegations which relate to exposure to the material which can cause fatal diseases.

    Three men have been stabbed in Birmingham city centre during disorder outside a McDonald's restaurant.

    Emergency crews were called to three different locations on High Street at about 17:45.

    Witnesses told the BBC a group of about 100 teenagers were in the area at the time of the attacks.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service said one man had been "seriously injured" while the others were in "better condition".
