    A dedicated school for students with autism iin Solihull could open its doors within two years, councillors were told this week.

    An application is due to go to the Department for Education this month, with a decision expected early next year.

    Should the bid be successful, the local authority has an aspiration that the school would welcome its first pupils in September 2020, although the education team has acknowledged this timetable would be "a push".

    The free school plan has been drawn up in response to concerns about the rising number of autistic children who are having to be taught outside the borough.

    An exact location for the proposed development has yet to be confirmed.

    A body found near Tunstall town centre on Saturday afternoon has been identified by police as that of 45-year-old Xhafer Morina from Stoke-on-Trent

    He was discovered on Wesley Street and Staffordshire Police say his death is not being treated as suspicious.

    Shops in Stafford are being conned by criminals using fake £20 and £50 notes, Staffordshire Police has warned.

    The forgeries are being used to buy low-value items like crisps and drinks, the force said, allowing the forgers to leave with legal money in change.

    The force said the number of fake notes being used appeared to be on the increase and asked shopkeepers to put the notes in a plastic bag, to preserve evidence, if they are found.

    An artist is creating limited edition canvases of Dudley Zoo's four orangutans to raise money for an enclosure.

    David Skidmore from Bromsgrove is creating a graphite pencil-drawn montage of the animals which will go on sale in the zoo shop to help raise funds toward the £800,000 new outdoor enclosure.

    Originally from Cradley, 58-year-old David said: "I offered to draw the orangs as I’m a wildlife artist and conservationist at heart and hopefully the prints will give the zoo’s orangutan enclosure appeal a boost."

  18. Murder arrests after woman's deathpublished at 17:59 British Summer Time 2 October 2018

    A woman has died following an incident at a house in Bordesley Green, Birmingham.

    The 50-year-old was discovered at the property in Birmingham on Monday with two others who had suffered injuries.

    Police were called to reports of a disturbance at a property on Yardley Green Road on Monday evening saying there appeared to have been "some sort of disagreement".

    A 35-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder after being discharged from hospital.
