    A project to create a memorial to Eglantyne Jebb in Ellesmere has been awarded £21,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

    She set up the Save the Children charity 100 years ago, with the help of her sister, after the end of World War One.

    The project will take 18 months and local volunteers will research her work and come up with ideas before creating the sculpture, which will stand in Cremorne Gardens, next to the Mere.

    Firefighters have rescued a small horse that became stuck in water near Newport in Shropshire.

    Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said Daffy was cold, but recovering well from his experience and has been treated by a vet.

    Reporting restrictions have now been lifted, allowing us to name the 17-year-old who was jailed for the murder of Ozell Pemberton in Sutton Coldfield.

    He is Amir Mohammed Hussain from Lozells.

    Hussain has been sentenced to a minimum of 16 years in prison.

    Two people have been jailed for life for the murder of a 16-year-old.

    Ozell Pemberton was stabbed to death outside a McDonalds in Sutton Coldfield in May.

    Oscar Ingram, who is 21 and from Banners Grove in Erdington, was told he would serve a minimum of 24 years in prison.

    A 17-year-old who can't be named will serve at least 16 years.

    Both were found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court earlier.

    A serving West Midlands Police officer is due in court to face a series of corruption charges., external

    The force says the 39-year-old was arrested in March and has been charged with five counts of conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office, five counts of data protection breaches and conspiring to pervert the course of justice.

    He's been suspended from duty and is due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court tomorrow.

    Three other men, all from Birmingham, have also been charged with counts of conspiring to pervert the course of justice and aiding and abetting misconduct in a public office.

    A 17-year-old boy and 21-year-old man have been found guilty of murdering a teenager in a street stabbing.

    Ozell Pemberton, 16, was found fatally hurt in Sutton Coldfield town centre, near a branch of McDonald's, on 17 May.

    The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and Oscar Ingram, from Erdington, Birmingham, had pleaded not guilty at the city's crown court.

    They were convicted today and are set to be sentenced later this afternoon.

    The private developer behind the Paradise development in the centre of Birmingham has denied that it's run out of money and is in limbo.

    This week, an audit committee heard that the council's part of the project had run out of money and needed £50m to continue.

    However, that cash is about paying for demolition and infrastructure works, including utilities - not for construction, which is being funded by the private sector.

    With the council saying it's now talking with the local enterprise partnership (LEP) about finding the £50m, the private developer is adamant the overall £700m scheme hasn't run out of money.

    A charity that helps homeless people says it can no longer support people who use the illegal synthetic drug known as Monkey Dust.

    It's a class B drug, also known as MDPHP, which has been in circulation for several years, but has risen in popularity in the West Midlands in the past year.

    The Lyme Trust charity in Newcastle under Lyme, external houses people who need a place to stay and this week launched an outreach team to help rough sleepers in the town centre.

    It says it has stopped helping people who use monkey dust, saying it makes them paranoid and unpredictable and instead staff put users in touch with other services.

    Three people have been arrested in a joint West Mercia and Thames Valley Police operation at Cleeve Prior near Evesham.

    Officers recovered a firearm and drugs, as well as stolen property including a car and a quad bike.

    The men were arrested for offences ranging from supplying drugs to burglary and theft.

  18. School to close sixth form because of low numberspublished at 15:08 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2018

    Bridgnorth Endowned School is planning to close its sixth form because of low student numbers.

    The head teacher, Barry Worth, said it was the "end of an era", but it would free up money to spend on the rest of the secondary school.

    There are just 38 students in the school's upper sixth and 16 in the lower. The school says many of the town's students are opting to go to colleges in Shrewsbury and Stourbridge instead.

    Oldbury Wells School in Bridgnorth is extending its own sixth form.

    Mr Worth is consulting with parents on the sixth form closure, but says it won't happen until the current lower sixth pupils have completed their A levels.
