Today his lawyers plus campaign group Dignity in Dying will ask for a full hearing at the Supreme Court.

The number of homeless people living across the West Midlands has risen to 24,000, new figures show.

Housing charity Shelter says the number has increased by more than 2,500 in the past year.

    Rough Sleeper

According to the report, Birmingham has the highest level of homelessness in the region with one in 73 people in the city homeless - 57 of them sleeping rough.

This was followed by Coventry, Rugby, Walsall and Wyre Forest.

In all, almost 320,000 people in Britain are now homeless, Shelter says - an increase of 13,000 in the last year.

Children's services in Worcestershire have improved since they were rated inadequate two years ago, but some issues still remain, the latest Ofsted report has found.

The inspectors, who were paying their sixth visit to the county since that original rating, said the evidence social workers presented during care hearings was "increasingly robust" and that they were proactive when children went missing.
