    The last of the tickets for the ceremony have just gone on sale.

    Coventry para-athlete Kare Adenegan, 17, was last month named the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year.

    A 40-year-old man has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in the stomach in Stoke-on-Trent.

    Staffordshire Police say they were called to Broad Street, Hanley, at 10:30 this morning and arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

    The injured man is being treated at the Royal Stoke University Hospital and a knife has been recovered.

    A man from Stourbridge who claims he designed Wolverhampton Wanderers' club badge is going to have the case heard at the High Court.

    Peter Davies, who is in his 70s, says he created the club's design when he was a schoolboy and wants compensation for it, saying it was his copyright.

    Lawyers say both sides have now agreed that a trial should be staged and it's likely to get under way next year.

    The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust says it's keeping Telford's A&E open 24 hours a day because its been able to recruit the doctors and nurses it needs.

    It said a "mixture of locum and agency middle grade doctors are now committed to rotas in the A&E until the end of March 2019."

    The hospital trust Chief Executive Simon Wright has thanked colleagues elsewhere in the NHS for helping him recruit the extra staff and NHS Improvement for allowing him to be "flexible with the pay cap".

    He also specifically thanked the Wrekin MP Mark Pritchard for helping to speed up visa applications and Telford and Wrekin Council for refurbishing junior doctors' accommodation.

    Plans to close Telford's accident and emergency department overnight have been shelved, the BBC understands.

    The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust had been preparing to make the move from 5 December, saying it was in the interests of patient safety, due to staff shortages.

    The plans had been met with protests in Telford and lobbying from politicians, who had urged the hospitals to rethink.

    A man has been charged with manslaughter over the death of a delicatessen-owner in Audlem.

    Adam Lovatt, who was 45, suffered serious head injuries in an attack near the Bridge Inn on 25 May and died in hospital.

    Today, Cheshire Police said 23-year-old Samuel Thorpe, from Wybunbury had been bailed to appear before magistrates in Crewe next month, along with a 35-year-old man who's been charged with assisting an offender.

    A 44-year-old man from Market Drayton has accepted a caution for a public order offence.

    No further action is being taken against a 58-year-old woman, also from Market Drayton, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

  7. More than 50 dogs seized in puppy farm raidspublished at 12:49 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2018

    Specialist kennels are caring for 56 sick puppies and dogs after raids at three addresses in the Telford area.

    West Mercia Police said it was also involved, following reports of the "sale of high-value, sick puppies to unsuspecting members of the public".

    The raids took place on Tuesday and five people were arrested. The dogs were recovered from two of the three addresses.

    The force said the animals "were suffering or likely to suffer, given the deplorable nature of the environment they were being kept in".

    Severn Trent Water's pre-tax profits are up 1.4% to £299.1m for the half-year to 30 September.

    The Coventry water firm's turnover was £881.5m, up 3.6%.

    Boss Liv Garfield called the numbers "a good set of results".

    "As we plan and invest for the future, we are on track for our biggest year of capital spend in a decade, with more than £300m invested in the first six months to improve performance for our customers today and for generations to come," she said.

    A former Shropshire midwife has been struck off by the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

    The regulator said Heather Lort was guilty of serious misconduct in her care of two babies in Ludlow, one of them Kate Stanton-Davies, who died hours after being born in 2009.

    The NMC says Ms Lort made "significant record keeping errors" and "failed to recognise that Kate's health was compromised at birth".

    A second baby was delivered stillborn in 2013 and the NMC panel were told the midwife "did not activate the emergency alarm" among other failings.

    The NMC said the only way to prevent the risk of more misconduct is to remove Ms Lort from the register.

    She has 28 days to appeal.

    There will be no ruling today on whether the Supreme Court will hear an assisted dying case being brought by a Shropshire man with motor neurone disease.

    Lawyers acting for retired lecturer Noel Conway, from Garmston, want a judicial review of current laws, but were rejected by the Court of Appeal in June.

  15. Police probe letter hoax turns out to be 'school project'published at 11:43 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2018

    A fake council letter that prompted a police investigation was created for a school writing project, Telford and Wrekin Council has confirmed.

    Yesterday the local authority shared a warning on social media yesterday - calling for people not to be taken in by what it described as "fake news".

    The letter, purportedly from the council and featuring its logo, warned residents that 3,000 homes would be built on park land.

    The council has said it won't reveal the name of the school involved, nor whether it was a primary or secondary.

    Plans to build five warehouses at a BAE Systems site near Alsager have been rejected.

    Cheshire East Councillors raised concerns about the number of lorries entering the site on Crewe Road.

    The site is allocated as "employment land" in the council's development plan and council officers had recommended the building for approval.

    But their report also contained 248 letters of objection, complaining about the loss of green space, a lack of infrastructure in Alsager to support the site and an abundance of warehouses already available in nearby towns.

    Five councillors voted in favour of rejecting the scheme due to landscaping issues, while five councillors abstained from the vote, and no member voted in favour of the plans.
