    There's been a spate of poaching incidents reported in Shropshire over Christmas.

    The first was near Bishop's Castle on Christmas Eve, when a farmer's dogs started barking and torch lights were seen in a field.

    Then, on Thursday afternoon, three men were stopped in fields near Bridgnorth and later that night two air rifles were confiscated by police from two men acting suspiciously on the main Bridgnorth to Telford road.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service will create a pop-up A&E unit in Birmingham city centre tonight for drunk people in need of its assistance.

    The measure is designed to ease pressure on hospitals and 999 services.

    There will also be 100 extra ambulances on patrol as the service gears up for one of its busiest nights.

    Operations delivery director Nathan Hudson (pictured) said: "Managing people can be quite difficult and challenging for our crews, and also making sure we can safely look after them and our staff is paramount."

    Coventry Blaze play their 1,000th Elite League game tonight, when they travel to face the Nottingham Panthers.

    That will be made up of 821 regular season games, 53 playoff games and 126 Elite League cup matches.

    They were one of the founding members of the Elite League when it formed in 2003, not long after moving to Coventry from Solihull, and have won the league title four times.

    Detectives investigating the violence at the recent Port Vale-Stoke City derby match say they've now made 37 arrests, but want help identifying eight more people.

    The force said its last photo appeal resulted in everyone being identified in three days.

  12. Police investigate mystery of alleged stabbing victimpublished at 17:36 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2018

    Police are trying to trace a man who was reportedly stabbed in the early hours of Saturday morning in the Leegomery area of Telford.

    When officers arrived at Lawton Farm Way at 04:21 they found no trace of the man or the person who made the call.

    The force said he was reported to have walked off after the alleged incident.

    The body of a woman has been found inside a Black Country flat.

    Officers discovered the body after forcing entry into a maisonette in the Charlemont Farm estate, in Wyndmill Crescent, West Bromwich, in the early hours.

    The death is being treated as unexplained and has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which is normal procedure in missing people inquiries, West Midlands Police said.

    A post-mortem examination is due to take place on Wednesday, the force added.

  20. Man in hospital after van overturns on motorwaypublished at 16:20 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2018

    A man's been taken to hospital in Stoke-on-Trent after a van overturned on the M6 in Staffordshire.

    Emergency services were called just before 14:00 to reports the van had crashed on the northbound carriageway between junctions 15 and 16.
