    A sell-out crowd of around 9,000 people is expected for the FA Cup match between Shrewsbury Town and Stoke City tomorrow, and West Mercia Police is warning this could affect traffic around the Montgomery Waters stadium.

    The force said it would have horses, sniffer dogs and plain clothes officers working alongside uniformed officers at the match.

    Plans for a new £600,000 community hall in Pershore go before district councillors next week.

    The town council is behind the proposals and says it will accommodate around 150 people in the main function room and have a meeting room, kitchen, toilets, changing facilities and family history room too.

    The land on which the new community hall would sit was earmarked for a future extension of Pershore cemetery (pictured above) in 2014, and the hall would make use of the cemetery’s 50-space car park.

    The hall proposals were backed by 90% of the residents who attended a meeting to discuss the plans in 2017, but there have been some objections, including one from the civic society, which says the new building would be too far for most people to travel to.

  12. Reconditioned stolen bikes to be given to charitiespublished at 18:39 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January 2019

    Charities and community groups in Stafford are going to be given stolen bikes which have been recovered by the police and refurbished by inmates at Drake Hall prison.

    Staffordshire Police says it's collected dozens in recent months as part of a crackdown on thefts and drugs offences, and has returned some to their rightful owners, but some couldn't be traced.

    A luxury boutique hotel in Coventry is set to be propped up by taxpayers’ cash, as the development “on its own is not financially viable”.

    Construction work to transform the former Coventry Evening Telegraph offices into a “new high quality hotel” was set to begin this month.

    But the “significant costs” to redevelop the vacant buildings on Corporation Street make it unviable for developer Far Gosford Developments Limited, a council report said.

    As a result, the council is proposing to sell adjacent sites at Chapel Street, Lamb Street and Bishop Street on 250-year leases, with the proceeds gifted to the developers.

    The report is set to be discussed , externalby the council's cabinet on Tuesday 8 January.

    Kidderminster Harriers have signed defender Ryan Johnson on an 18-month contract for an undisclosed fee.

    The 22-year-old has been on loan at Aggborough from Stevenage since the start of the season, but has now agreed to make the arrangement a more permanent one.

    An army of 80 cardboard police officers, each one metre high, are being placed outside schools across Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

    They carry messages, telling motorists to be more considerate and not to park on zig-zag road markings.
