    A woman and child have been injured after being hit by a car in Stafford.

    The pedestrians were struck at the junction of the A449 Moss Pit and The Pippins at about 17:45 on Monday, said the ambulance service.

    The girl suffered only minor injuries, but the woman was seriously hurt.

    They were taken to hospital, along with the driver of the car.

    Drivers who refuse to turn off their engines when at a standstill in Cheshire could now be fined.

    Cheshire West and Chester Council enforcement officers will issue £20 fixed-penalty to motorists who keep their engines running - which will double if it is unpaid.

    The authority say it hopes the move will improve air quality.

    Three teenagers have been arrested in Birmingham city centre on suspicion of drug and weapons offences after police spotted them "brandishing a zombie-style knife", the West Midlands force says. , external

    The three - two aged 16 and one 17 - were arrested at about 13:30 on Monday on Bennetts Hill after they were seen by an off-duty officer.

    A petition is being handed into Warwick District Council ahead of a meeting which will decide the future of Kenilworth's outdoor pool which has been earmarked for closure.

    Proposals to revamp the facilities at Abbey Fields leisure centre include a new pool with the potential in summer months for direct access to an outside terrace, the council says.

    It could also incorporate a number of water features aimed at younger children.

    At a meeting on Wednesday, , externalcouncillors will also be asked to approve proposals for a new leisure centre at Castle Farm with a new sports hall, gym and studios.

    A cross-party delegation of MPs led by two from the West Midlands is meeting the prime minister to voice concerns over Brexit.

    Former Conservative cabinet minister Dame Caroline Spelman says 211 MPs from across the Commons have now signed a letter to Theresa May, urging her to rule out a no-deal outcome.

    The MP for Meriden organised the letter with Labour’s MP for Birmingham Erdington Jack Dromey and said Mrs May had invited the group to meet her at Downing Street later.

    NHS bosses in Cheshire have already spent £1.8m more than they planned this year on staff pay, it's been revealed.

    Directors at the Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Leighton Hospital, Crewe, Victoria Infirmary, Northwich and Elmhurst, Winsford, heard their latest financial figures at their latest meeting.

    They revealed that, between April and November, they spent £115.8m on pay with £687,000 of the overspend going on agency staff.

    The board heard the trust often struggles with filling staff vacancies, sometimes getting no applications for roles.

    But officials say they're trying to cut their reliance on agency staff through schemes such as a recruitment drive and moving existing staff to other departments.

    It happened early this morning when, police said, he was on the B5062 at Sundorne Castle, near Shrewsbury Rugby Club.

    The 42-year-old was confirmed dead at the scene.

    A former NHS building described as an "eyesore" by some neighbours could soon be revamped and turned into 16 new homes.

    Bowring Developments Ltd wants to create seven two-bedroom flats in Bowring Hall, Wellington, Shropshire, and also build nine new houses on the site.

    Some have criticised the plans which would see a traffic island shifted to create a new driveway on Holyhead Road.

    Residents on a new housing development have told BBC Shropshire they're still waiting for repair work to be carried out nearly three years after moving in.

    The 14 homes which make up The Brambles, Whitchurch, were built by Sherwood Homes, external but residents say they're not finished and should never have been signed off.

    They say that sewage has been backing up into people’s homes and gardens and roads are also unfinished.

    Shropshire Council says it is working with homeowners to find a resolution.

    The BBC has contacted Sherwood Homes for comment.

    A campaign group says it should "probably thank" a councillor who wants ads promoting veganism to be stripped from buses - as it's raised the profile of the message.

    Deputy council leader Steve Charmley said in a series of tweets that the posters meant bus operator Arriva was being used to promote "fake news of vegangalists".

    He said he objected to the adverts being run in a "county built on agriculture".

    The notices, displayed on vehicles in Telford and Shrewsbury, encourage people to try veganism in January and have been paid for by Shropshire Veggies and Vegans.
