    A woman has been arrested after an eight-year-old boy was hit by a car.

    It happened in the car park of a Hungry Horse pub on Kingsway in Stafford just before 18:00 last night.

    The boy was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital with potentially life-changing injuries. His condition is currently described as stable.

    Police say a 32-year-old woman from Stafford has been arrested on suspicion of providing a positive breath test and they're appealing for witnesses.

    Lordswood Road in Birmingham is still closed after a police incident last night.

    Hagley Road is open after being shut for several hours last night but we're still waiting to hear from West Midlands Police about the details.

    A child has been seriously injured in a road traffic collision in Stafford last night.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian in a car park off Newport Road, Stafford at about 17:50 yesterday.

    The boy, aged eight, was given first aid treatment by bystanders, a spokeswoman said.

    He was in a "serious condition" and taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further emergency care.

    A consultation has started on the future of nearly 390 jobs at an insurance firm in Stoke-on-Trent.

    National firm Ageas announced yesterday afternoon that it's looking at closing its Trentham Lakes site.

    A shareholder is considering legal action over the collapse of cafe chain Patisserie Valerie.

    Chris Boxall, co-founder of an asset management firm, said he had a moral and fiduciary duty to clients.

    He said he had questions about owner Luke Johnson's oversight of the business.

    Administrators KPMG are closing 70 stores of the Birmingham-based stores and seeking buyers for others.

  8. HS2: Project 'should have been given different name'published at 08:42 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2019

    HS2 should have been given a different name because its capacity is more important than its speed, a former chairman of the project said.

    Sir Terry Morgan, who resigned from HS2 Ltd last month, also claimed the project cannot be built to its current specification on budget.

    Giving evidence to the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee, he said: "I think most people regret actually calling it HS2.

    "It is about creating capacity. Connectivity is a really strong issue, particularly when you look at the Midlands going north."

    HS2 has a budget of £55.7 billion, is expected to run up to 18 trains per hour at a top speed of 225mph and open from London to Birmingham in 2026.

    Callum Griffiths has spent thousands of pounds on cosmetic surgery - "enough to put a large deposit on a big house".

    The 23-year-old from Birmingham says he's had his lips filled at least 150 times as well as numerous botox procedures.

    Talks are set to resume today over Birmingham's ongoing bin dispute.

    Rubbish is still being collected but only on a work to rule basis.

    The city council says if the industrial action continues they may have to bring in fortnightly collections.

    Unite said talks at ACAS on Monday were "encouraging" but that no resolution had been reached.

  12. Body found in hunt for missing manpublished at 07:43 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2019

    A body has been found in the hunt for a missing Hereford man.

    The body of Michael Worsley, 69, who was reported missing on 18 January, was discovered in Withington on Tuesday.

    His next of kin has been informed but formal identification is yet to take place, West Mercia Police said.

    The death is not being treated as suspicious.

    Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough says his side must just enjoy themselves when they play Manchester City in the Carabao Cup tonight.

  14. Collision sparks delays around Hagley Roadpublished at 07:15 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2019

    A serious collision on Birmingham's A456 Hagley Road led to it being closed for six hours.

    It reopened at 06:30 but the A4040 Lordswood Road remains shut in both directions due to to "accident investigation work".

    This could cause delays for anyone trying to get into Birmingham this morning.
