The current school, at Burbidge Road, Bordesley, has around 750 students but it is proposed its secondary years are removed, although that move is still under consultation.

Ofsted rated Al-Hijrah ‘inadequate’ in 2016 due its controversial policy of segregating boys and girls. The city council, which funds the school, disputed it but were ruled against by the Court of Appeal a year later. The school is also under a government directive to convert to an academy.
