    Staff and students at a college in the West Midlands are boosting their health and wellbeing at a special animal cafe.

    It's an idea which started in Japan where customers can pet a furry friend while grabbing a cuppa to help them relax.

    Halesowen College has adopted this technique after a member of staff came up with the idea.

  2. JLR shutdown 'due to Brexit'published at 16:14 Greenwich Mean Time 24 January 2019

    A week-long pause in production in April is to be introduced at Jaguar Land Rover due to potential disruption from Brexit.

    The three assembly plants - at Castle Bromwich, Solihull and Halewood - as well as the engine plant at Wolverhampton will be affected.

    The plants were already due to close from 15-23 April, as part of the company's normal annual maintenance programme.

    However, given the lack of progress towards a Brexit deal and the uncertainty associated with it, JLR has decided to extend the shutdown.

    The firm has previously warned about the impact of Brexit. It has already had to cut production due to slowing demand in China.

    Oswestry's community cinema is to close its doors in three months' time, it's been announced.

    Kinokulture was set up by partners Ian Garland and Ruth Carter five years ago in an old town centre chapel, and in that time has built up a regular audience.

    The couple say the cinema itself has been a success, but they've been unable to agree a new lease with their church landlords.

    They're trying to find a suitable venue for a possible reopening in the future.

    Three men have been arrested by Derbyshire's armed response unit on suspicion of poaching and dangerous driving.

    Officers said they were called to Snelston, near Ashbourne, just after 01:30 this morning and seized a 4x4 vehicle with a number of dead animals inside.

    The men are aged 22, 29 and 34 and all come from Coventry.

    A move to postpone plans to relocate the headquarters of Warwick District Council has been described as a "desperate move" to avoid negative publicity in the run-up to local council elections, said an MP.

    Labour MP for Warwick and Leamington, Matt Western, said the plans, which have been put on hold until July, were "seriously flawed" and had been postponed for "political reasons".

    The Conservative leader of the council, Andrew Mobbs said the delay was due to the "current uncertainty in the economy".

    "The council simply doesn’t need brand new offices," he said, adding the council leadership had shown "contempt for businesses, residents and councillors – even some in his own party".

    A plan to to build 16 new council-owned affordable homes is to go before Sandwell's cabinet next week.

    The proposal to develop land on Old Hobicus Lane will provide two and four bed houses and is part of £70m strategy to construct local authority properties over the next three years.

    Councillors will discuss the plan at their meeting on 30 January.

    Shrewsbury Town manager Sam Ricketts faces one of his toughest challenges yet as he attempts to inspire his side - who are 18th in League One - to a famous FA Cup win over his former club Wolverhampton Wanderers at a sold-out New Meadow in the fourth round.

    This time last year the 37-year-old ex-Wales defender was coaching Wolves' under-16s team.

    Having already orchestrated an FA Cup third-round surprise win at Stoke, he is now seeking to knock out the club he captained to the League One title in 2014.

    "We're known as little Shrewsbury and Wolves are eighth in the Premier League and trying to get into Europe," Ricketts told BBC Sport.

    "No-one expects us to get through because of the gulf between the clubs."

    Buildings at an historic park once owned by Birmingham's famous Cadbury family are set for a revamp thanks to a £250,000 insurance payout.

    The Cadbury Barn at Manor Park Farm in Northfield was torched by arsonists in 2017 and insurance money will now pay for other improvements at buildings in the park.

    It was originally hoped the barn could be rebuilt but the idea has since been abandoned.

    Money will instead be spent on paying for a lodge to be re-roofed to be used for staff facilities and a feasibility study to be carried out around bringing some of the other buildings into community use.

    Birmingham City Council's Trusts and Charities Committee agreed for £49,000 of the insurance money to be spent at a meeting yesterday.

    The barn was built in 1895 by George and Elizabeth Cadbury, from the city’s famous family of chocolate manufacturers.
