Last June, the department was criticised by government inspectors for failing to improve the overall standard of children’s social care.
In the latest visit, inspectors said they focussed on children who "may be in need or at risk of significant harm", those being referred to early help services, the effectiveness of child protection enquiries and the "quality of assessments and interventions for children in need of help and protection".

The report says more support is also being given to families to help them to access early help, but that too many are still being referred to the police and NHS without their knowledge or consent.

Collection boxes are being set up on the streets of Wolverhampton encouraging people to donate to homelessness good causes, rather than directly to people begging on the streets.
The boxes are being put up on major streets, as well as in local shops and businesses.
Similar schemes are already in use in several other towns and cities, including Shrewsbury.
The Alternative Giving campaign - a joint venture between the city council, businesses, police and local homeless charity P3 - will see donations go to finding accommodation for rough sleepers.

The Stoke City striker Saido Berahino's been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
The 25-year-old was detained in London's West End in the early hours of this morning.
Scotland Yard said the arrest followed reports of a "disturbance" on Great Russell Street and, when their officers arrived, a car was seen driving away "at speed".
Police stopped his car on Bedford Square and say he told officers he'd been the victim of a robbery.
Stoke City haven't commented on their striker's arrest but it's understood he'll be dealt with internally under their disciplinary policy.

A scheme to transform a former Walsall rubbish tip and create about 900 new jobs is set to be approved by councillors.
Parkhill Estates Limited has submitted an application to Walsall Council, external to build industrial units at the old Moxley tip in Moxley Road, Darlaston.
It said the proposal would provide a huge boost to the economy and expects to create 900 full-time or equivalent jobs once it is completed. In the short-term, Parkhill said some 250 jobs would also be created during the construction phase.
Officers are recommending Walsall Council’s planning committee grants approval to the development when it meets on Thursday night.

Several woman have been sexually assaulted in part of Birmingham and police say they're not ruling out there may be more cases.
The attacks happened last Tuesday and Wednesday evening on Shirley Road (pictured) and Fox Hollies Road, Acocks Green, , externaland police patrols have been increased in the area.
In each case the force says women were approached by a man who touched them inappropriately over their clothing.
They add that they're aware of three assaults but can't rule out the possibility of further offences by the same offender.

A driver's been arrested after a paramedic and a police officer were attacked following a collision involving several cars.
Both the ambulance service and police say they were called to the junction of Stockwell Street and Union Street in Leek last night.
Paramedics say they assessed and treated seven people at the scene and one man had to be taken for hospital treatment.
Police say three cars were involved in the crash and several parked cars were damaged.
They say a 28-year-old man, of no fixed above, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and assaulting an emergency service worker.
The owners of a cake shop say they have no idea why vandals have repeatedly squirted glue into the locks of their new store.
West Mercia Police is investigating after Dugan's Patisserie on Capuchin Yard, Hereford, was vandalised for the fourth time since it opened just before Christmas.
Owners Tracy Dugan and Ben Maassen say their locks have been filled with glue and silicone, external, stopping them from getting in and they're puzzled and angry about why they're being targeted.

It looks at issues surrounding racism and the struggles they faced as they tried to settle here in the city.
The programme also follows the journey of Birmingham poet Sue Brown as she explores her own family's past.
The First Black Brummies airs on BBC Four at 21:00 this evening.

An under-threat independent Black Country cinema says a recent surge in ticket sales has boosted its prospects of survival.
The Light House in Wolverhampton launched a campaign last year after losing city council funding.
The cinema, based in The Chubb Buildings, saw a 100% increase in sales last month.
Trustee Julie Rennison said people had been "flocking" to the cinema but "would still need donations" in order to stay open.

Eight dogs have died in Worcestershire so far this year after an outbreak of a deadly virus.
Worcestershire Regulatory Services , external(WRS), which handles dog warden services in the county for the district councils, says it's seeing a lot of stray dogs with parvovirus.
Staff say it is a severe, highly infectious disease which can often be fatal and the main symptoms are severe vomiting and diarrhoea.
WRS says, while parvovirus can be prevented by vaccination, it's concerned owners can't afford the vaccines and are just dumping their dogs when they get ill.
