    MPs have been voting on eight different options for the next steps in the Brexit process, including leaving without a deal, revoking Britain's departure from the European Union, or seeking a customs union.

  2. Special measures trust appoints new medical directorpublished at 10:48 Greenwich Mean Time 28 March 2019

    The trust that runs Shropshire's two main hospitals has appointed a new medical director.

    Dr Arne Rose currently works at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

    He will take up the position at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust in June and current medical director, Edwin Borman will take on a new role as director of clinical effectiveness for the trust.

    The key appointment comes four months after the trust was placed in special measures following concerns over patient safety in maternity and emergency services.

    Passengers are being asked to have their say on plans for two new railway stations in the West Midlands.

    Willenhall and Darlaston stations are due to offer connections to Walsall, Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street stations.

    Transport for West Midlands and West Midlands Rail Executive said the plans could be viewed and commented on until Friday.

    Several MPs in the West Midlands have told the BBC they are hopeful Theresa May's Brexit deal will get approved if it is brought back to the Commons for a third time.

    It's already been rejected twice by large margins but MPs are struggling to find a consensus on alternatives after failing to find a majority in votes on eight different options last night.

    Some senior Brexiteers have moved towards supporting Mrs May's deal, but the MPs she relies on in the DUP have refused to alter their stance.

    However, the Mid-Worcestershire Tory MP Nigel Huddleston's says he thinks there's a "bit of momentum" towards her agreement with pressure from local constituencies to try and avoid "more years of chaos".

    The chairman of Stoke City says he wants to see more wins from the side before the end of the season to give something back to their fans.

    In their 38 Championship games so far, the Potters have just 10 wins, having started in August as one of the favourites for promotion.

    They now have eight games left and start those at home to Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.

    The A46 in Warwickshire has fully opened after an earlier crash involving five cars.

    Officers were called to the southbound carriageway close to Warwick at about 07:15.

    There were no injuries, said Warwickshire Police.

    A healthcare trust in Staffordshire has become one of only two in the country to be rated outstanding for treating mental health.

    The North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust provides services to about 500,000 people across Stoke-on-Trent.

    Inspectors praised Harplands Hospital for treating patients with compassion, as well as keeping them safe, saying it was "making a real difference to people's lives".

    Bosses at the trust have praised staff for their work role in working with patients and carers directly.

    Figures published earlier show car production across the UK has fallen for the ninth consecutive month.

    The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said 123,200 cars were built in February, down by 15.3%.

    The car industry group said the fall should be a wake-up call to anyone who believes the industry could survive a no-deal Brexit without "serious damage".

    Cyclists campaigning for a new velodrome to be built in the West Midlands are preparing to hand over their petition.

    Their bid was launched after Birmingham was awarded the 2022 Commonwealth Games, controversially choosing to hold cycling events at London’s Lee Valley Velopark instead of constructing a venue in the region.

    The city council has cited a lack of time, demand and funding for the decision, insisting that hosting track cycling events outside the West Midlands will not take away from the overall Games experience.

    The petition has 5,800 signatures so far, as well as support from high-profile names associated with the sport.

    A crash involving five cars is causing severe delays on the A46 in Warwickshire.

    The southbound carriageway is partially blocked from Gaveston Island to the A4177 Birmingham Road.

    There's six miles of queuing traffic, with delays of more than an hour.

    A man suffered a stab wound to his hand during an incident in a Birmingham newsagents on Wednesday.

    Officers were called to reports of disorder at the shop in Bull Street at about 17:30.

    CCTV is being examined, says West Midlands Police.

    The injury was minor, it added.

    Methods to tackle the rising number of pupil exclusions will be discussed at a special summit of school and college leaders in Birmingham today.

    Children in the West Midlands region are twice as likely to be excluded as those in the South East, government figures show.

    Pupil exclusions have been linked to rising levels of knife crime among young people by the police and crime commissioner.

    David Jamieson will meet with senior teachers from schools and colleges from across Birmingham, Solihull, the Black Country and Coventry at Birmingham City FC's St Andrew’s stadium.

    Dudley and Stoke-on-Trent have been identified as two of 10 towns where jobs are at risk from automation.

    Think tank the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) identified 10 former manufacturing towns where social deprivation was already high, and jobs were at risk.

    They are Doncaster, Wigan, Blackpool, Mansfield, Barnsley, Bradford, Plymouth, Stoke-on-Trent, Wakefield and Dudley.

    Patrick Spencer from the CSJ says they need to "cultivate a business community that's going to create jobs locally" in order to survive.

    Four children killed in a house fire in Stafford will be remembered at a memorial service in the town today.

    Riley Holt, eight; Keegan Unitt, six; Tilly Rose Unitt, four; and Olly Unitt, three, died in the blaze in Highfields in February.

    People are being asked to dress in bright colours and bring a teddy bear to the service at St Mary’s Collegiate Church this evening.

    A 24-year-old woman and a man, 28, who were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter by gross negligence have been released while inquiries continue.
