    A new victim advice line is being launched across Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire.

    Callers will be provided with a dedicated care co-ordinator when they use the free and confidential service, says West Mercia Police.

    Lines will be open from 08:00 to 20:00 Monday to Friday and 09:00 to 17:00 on Saturdays.

  2. Armed robbery at post office investigatedpublished at 08:40 British Summer Time 1 April 2019

    Staff were threatened and money stolen during an armed robbery in a Leamington Spa shop on Saturday.

    Officers say they believe the man, wearing a balaclava, had a claw hammer and blade during the attack at the McColls shop and post office on Stanley Court, Sydenham.

    After breaking into the till he fled the scene in a car at about 21:15, police said.

    Staff were unhurt but "understandably left shaken", said Warwickshire Police.

  3. Knife attack death investigatedpublished at 08:26 British Summer Time 1 April 2019

    Officers are continuing to investigate after a man was stabbed to death in the street in Birmingham.

    The victim, 24, was found with stab injuries in Arran Way in the Smith's Wood area of the city at about 23:15 on Friday.

    West Midlands Police said the man died at the scene shortly after.

    Det Insp Michelle Allen said a man had "sadly lost his life", and appealed for witnesses to come forward.

    Three people are being questioned by officers following an incident in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent on Saturday.

    Officers were called to Hope Street at about 17:45, to reports of disorder police say.

    Two men, aged 32 and 38 and a 29-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of affray.

    The scheme aims to teach children about the characteristics protected by the Equality Act - such as sexual orientation and religion.

    But some parents at Parkfield Community School in Birmingham say lessons featuring books depicting same-sex relationships are not age-appropriate and the lessons have currently been put on hold.

  6. Prime minister to host summit on serious youth violencepublished at 07:36 British Summer Time 1 April 2019

    The West Midlands Police and Crime Comissioner (PCC) is to meet the prime minister today in a bid to help combat the rising levels of violent crime.

    David Jamieson along with ministers and community leaders have been invited by Theresa May to attend a serious violence summit later.

    He says more needs to be done to avoid excluding students from schools as they become more likely to commit crimes.

    The government is to begin a consultation on whether public bodies, including hospitals and schools, should be legally obliged to raise concerns about children at risk of becoming involved in knife crime.

  8. Boys charged over Grindr date robberiespublished at 07:24 British Summer Time 1 April 2019

    A 17-year-old boy is due in court charged with robbery after three men who had arranged dates using the Grindr app were attacked.

    The victims were targeted in separate attacks on parkland in Bordesley Green, Birmingham, in January and March.

    Two attacks happened off Yardley Green Road on 5 January and 18 March, with a third off Hob Moor Road on 24 March.

    A second 17-year-old boy, also charged with robbery, appeared before city magistrates on Saturday.
